HAMBURG — People Inc. Senior Living recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary. The first apartment complex to open was People Inc. Iris Senior Living on Sowles Road in Hamburg.
People Inc. Senior Living now has 18 locations throughout Western New York.
Potential applicants for People Inc. Senior Living must be 62 years of age or older and meet income guidelines. Monthly rent, including some utilities, is based on tenants’ income. The one-bedroom apartments include kitchen appliances and are small pet-friendly. Case managers are available to provide tenants assistance with referrals to services.
A community room and laundry facilities are located in each building. Group transportation to grocery stores and a variety of activities are provided for tenants who wish to participate.
During a speech that was held for the ribbon-cutting celebration for People Inc. Orchard Senior Living, the newest location, which is in Springville, People Inc. Chief Operating Officer Rhonda Frederick said, “We were welcomed into the town of Hamburg. I have to thank the People Inc. Board of Directors – Dr. James Boles, our president and chief executive officer, and Jocelyn Bos, our housing director – for bringing the idea of expanding our mission to include services to seniors. They were a forward-thinking group who recognized that the agency had the skills and commitment to provide this much-needed service to seniors.”
Frederick also shared a story about one of the first tenants who moved to People Inc. Iris Senior Living in Hamburg.
She said, “I do remember fondly one of the first tenants at Iris. During her interview, she shared the difficulties of her current living situation and how she had watched Iris being built and had dreamed that she could live there and wanted to be in front of a certain tree. Libby got her wish, and spent many great years in that apartment. I loved to see her when I went out there, as she always had a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eye, flowers attached to the bottom of her quad cane and a big ‘hello.’ Through the years of working on the next 17 projects, I always kept Libby in mind. I knew that each and every complex we did would have stories like Libby’s, and no matter what was thrown at our development team, we would get the projects built and give people a wonderful home.”
