World War II F4U Corsair
HAMBURG — The Hamburg Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue to benefit Robin Mead, from 1 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Takeout will be available.
Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door on the day of the event. For ticket price information, call 649-9830 or 480-7016.
The event will also feature a replica World War II F4U Corsair, flown by Medal of Honor winner “Pappy” Boyington’s Black Sheep Squadron, which fought in the Pacific Ocean.
This half-scale Corsair was restored to its present condition after four years, by former Hamburg history teacher and pilot Raymond Scott of Lake View.
The Corsiar and Grumman “Hellcat” accounted for 75 percent of enemy planes’ being shot down in the Pacific Ocean.
Barbecue attendees may take photos with the plane, during the fundraiser.
