In a little over a month, Blasdell residents will have the opportunity to purchase fresh goods as the Farmer’s Market will return in 2013 with some new vendors.
At Monday’s (April 1) meeting of the Blasdell Village Board, it was announced that Wednesday, May 8 will serve as the starting date of the Farmers Market, which will be located in the parking lot next to Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant, at 3785 South Park Avenue. It was further stated that at least nine new vendors, including a florist, will be incorporated into the market, which village officials described as a general success in its initial season last summer.
“It’s nice to have more vendors there,” Blasdell Mayor Michael Petrie said of the market’s added partakers. “I’m glad that (Ilio DiPaolo’s owner) Dennis DiPaolo is really putting (the Farmers Market) out there.”
It was also stated that feather banners will adorn the market this season. Trustee Rob Hefner said it is his anticipation that the second annual Farmers Market will be an improvement over the initial season, based on the aforementioned additions and advance notice given to local residents. The Farmers Market will be held on Wednesdays through Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.
In a related issue, it was announced that the annual village-wide garage sale will take place on Saturday, May 18. The municipal lot near village hall will be open for a flea market style of sales, to go along with residences and properties that notably are available for residents’ perusal. Individuals who are interested in participating in hosting as part of the garage sale must apply for a permit, free of charge, through village hall and can do so by calling 822-1921.
Another upcoming event, the Annual State of the Village, featuring Mayor Petrie speaking as well as several new, local business owners, will take place at Ilio DiPaolo’s on Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m., following a cash bar at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. More information on the event can be received by calling 825-3675.
