Local historical society hosts Civil War talk

NORTH COLLINS — The North Collins Historical Society will host a presentation titled “Our Bullet-Proof Cover.”

This event is part of an ongoing series of talks in conjunction with the North Collins Historical Museum’s current award-winning exhibit, “Southern Erie County in the Civil War and War of 1812.”

The program will be held at the North Collins Historical Museum, located at 2021 Center St. in the village of North Collins, beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 26.  Admission is free.

The presentation will cover the protective works built by the Union infantrymen and engineers, during the Civil War of 1861 – 1865.  It will discuss how Civil War fieldworks were built and used in various landscapes and engagements.

The 90-minute talk will be made by Kevin O’Beirne, a Hamburg engineer from Hamburg who coauthored “The Columbia Rifles Research Compendium.”
