HAMBURG — Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School has unveiled a new, education-based, after-school program, in partnership with the non-profit Just for Kids, based in Williamsville.
The Catholic school’s new program incorporates academic activities, to help improve students’ reading, writing, math and problem-solving skills. Registration is currently being taken at www.justforkidsonline.org.
The program, run by Just for Kids, will be held at the school, which is located at 68 East Main St. in Hamburg. Just for Kids also runs similar programs in other Western New York districts.
Saints Peter & Paul Principal Patrick Riester said that the school administrators compared after-school programs offered in WNY and chose Just for Kids because “it not only offered the academic enrichment school administrators wanted for students, but also provided the fun atmosphere that parents wanted for their children.”
Two sessions will be offered. The first is academic programming and will offer kids homework help, Pages for Pizza, math games, science and Kids College activities. This session will run from dismissal – 4:15 p.m. The second session includes recreational activities and will offer programming in the gym, multipurpose space and cafeteria. It will run from 4:15 – 5:30. Children may enroll in one or both sessions.
Riester said that these programs will reinforce the teaching strategies used in the classroom every day and give children “a new perspective on what they learn. We recognize that not every child is going to get concepts the first time around. Just for Kids’ program allows for enrichment and remediation on key concepts in a fun, interesting atmosphere.”
This new offering is one of two new programs made available in the Southtowns by Just for Kids, according to Director of School Age Programming Kristina Kleeh. “We are so happy to bring our program to children going to school in the southern suburbs of Erie County,” she said. “The Saints Peter & Paul program, along with a similar program in each of the Orchard Park elementary schools, is the first we’ve ever been able to offer in the Southtowns.”
Parents with children attending Saints Peter & Paul may register students for the program online. Payment options are determined, based on the number of days children are enrolled.
