HAMBURG — The second annual Summer Solstice concert at Hamburg Town Beach will take place on Saturday, June 21. The event will be put on by Longboards at the Beach, which serves the location with beach treats, activities and entertainment.
“We’re kicking off the summer with a beach band called The Cascos,” said Nancy Maisano, owner of Longboards at the Beach.
“We did it last year and it was so much fun. People came and just danced their way into the sunset,” she said, adding that there were approximately 300 people that attended.
Last year, the Summer Solstice concert was hosted by Sense Memory. The DJ duo, comprised by PJ Tighe and Alexander Jones, brought a futuristic feel to the sand.
“They were kind of a techno-electric light show,” Maisano said. Adorned in robotic masks and costumes, she said that, “They really lit up the beach. It was very cool.”
The Cascos are an indie-esque garage rock band with slight punk influences and an occasional surf vibe.
“They’re playing right on the beach,” Maisano said. “I’ll have some solstice specials at the concession stand.”
Opening for that band will be North Collins native Corey Bzibziak.
Bzibziak, who has performed at the Hamburg Town Beach before, is also in a band called Humble Braggers, in addition to his solo act.
Hot dog, hamburger, pizza and panini specials will be available at Longboards concession stand, for concert attendees.
“People love a little something different at the beach that they don’t usually get,” Maisano said. “You kind of burn out quickly for hamburgers and hot dogs. We jazz them up.”
The summer solstice event will be appropriate for all ages and “totally fun for the whole family,” according to Maisano.
“We’re just going to celebrate summer,” she added.
But it will not end there. As summer continues, Longboards at the Beach will host patio performances from other bands, as well.
A patio performance from Greg Zeis and Jess Chizuk will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 27.
On Friday, July 18, Concrete to Peach will perform from 6-8 p.m. on the patio.
Music on the patio will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15; musical guest to be announced.
Longboards at the Beach is located at Hamburg Town Beach, 4420 Lake Shore Road in Hamburg.
