Pistol permit holders can still ‘opt out’

Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs wants to prompt pistol permit holders who have not yet completed their Public Records Exemptions forms, also known as the “Opt-Out” form, that his office is still accepting them. Since the implementation of the privacy provision in the NY SAFE Act in February of 2013, Jacobs’ office has receive close to 30,000 “Opt-Out” forms. “My office has collected ‘Opt-Out’ forms from 50% of the over 60,000 pistol permit holders in Erie County,” said Clerk Jacobs. “I want to ensure that the remaining permit holders, who have not yet completed and sent in their privacy forms, know that my office will continue to accept them.”
Permit holders can also visit www.erie.gov/optout to print out a copy of the form, fill-it out and mail it or fax it in to the Erie County Clerk. Completed forms are to be submitted to: Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs, c/o Pistol Permit Office, 92 Franklin Street Buffalo, NY 14202 or faxed to716/858-6550, Attn: Pistol Permit Office. “I encourage all remaining pistol permit holders who want assurance that their records will be kept private to complete and submit the form to my office,” added Jacobs.
The “Opt-Out” form is also readily available at the Pistol Permit Office located at 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo, NY 14202 and at each of the Erie County Auto Bureau Offices and Mobile Site locations.
