HAMBURG — The Immaculata Academy Franciscan Club and high school students raised money for others, during the school’s “sleep out” for the homeless on Nov. 22.
Students slept in cardboard boxes, tarps and sleeping bags in the parking lot behind the school, during Immaculata Academy’s 11th annual Homeless Hangout.
The stated goal of this event was to help students grow a greater understanding about those living in similar situations, build appreciation for their own blessings and understand the circumstances many people live in.
Participants raised money through pledges; proceeds went to an Immaculata Academy family member who recently experienced a house fire.
Students at the Homeless Hangout were not allowed to bring cell phones, DVDs, iPods® or other conveniences. The only food available was as the result of donations. Snacks were not allowed.
