Nominations for youth bureau service awards

The Town of Hamburg will hold its 25th Youth Bureau Service Awards and Recognition Banquet Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. at Michael’s Banquet Facility in Hamburg. The Youth Bureau will accept nominations for awards in three categories up to March 28. Members of Youth Engaged in Service will also be recognized.
Information and nomination forms may be obtained from the town website at www.townofhamburgny.com or by calling the Recreation Office at 646-5145. Reservations can be made for $25 per person.
The top award is the Michael J. Dundon Service to Youth Award that is given to the person who best exemplifies the service of the late Michael J. Dundon, a longtime executive director of the Youth Bureau. Criteria for candidates for this award are that he or she be a paid professional employed within the township and exhibits the highest degree of professionalism and dedication to their work, clearly going above and beyond their job description in giving directly to Hamburg youth. Preferably the candidate will reside in the town.
The Youth Bureau will also honor up to three individuals with the Service to Youth Award. Recipients of the award will have given a high degree of their time, energy, dedication and commitment to youth development in general or in particular within the Town of Hamburg. Candidates must exhibit consistent efforts over several years working with or for youth in the community in a voluntary, unpaid position of service and must live in the town or have contributed their volunteer service to an organization within the town that serves youth.
The Recreation Department will also honor two men and two women as Character Coaches
Officials ask the boards of directors of each youth organization and school district leaders to nominate a candidate for this award who personifies the code of ethics of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association.
Award winners display qualities that include being a teacher during practices and being a coach on game day only; being a positive role model who leads by example and demonstrates fairness and sportsmanship.
