North Boston resident wins several film awards

Brianna Blank
NORTH BOSTON — Brianna Blank of North Boston, a past Hamburg Burger Fest Film Festival winner, recently won best animated short at the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival.

Her short film “Kiva” was one of 85 films screened and was also nominated for best Western New York student film.

Blank participated in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Hamburg Burger Fest Film Festivals, where her films won best director, people’s choice and best actress.

Recently, her short film, “Contingency,” was an official selection at this year’s Buffalo International Film Festival.

Since then, she has continued on her filmmaking path, working with local production companies on feature length films and filming an interactive film/exhibit for the Buffalo History Museum.

She has also directed, edited and filmed various episodes for the 2012 – 2013 season of “Kaleidoscope,” a religious TV show that airs on WGRZ, through the Canisius College Video Institute.

Some of her other works and involvements include a contributed film for the Neil Gaiman and Blackberry’s “Keep Moving Project,” which featured Gaiman’s “A Calendar of Tales.” Some of Blank’s images have been featured in Canisius College’s literary magazine “The Quadrangle” and has also appeared in a Dave Matthews Band music video for the song “Mercy.”

She is currently working on her second video game, focused on cancer awareness, due out in May.

This game is preceded by the release of her first video game, “NutWarz,” available for both Apple® and Android™ devices; the project has a stated goal of bringing awareness of testicular cancer.

She has also been a volunteer photographer for Camp Good Days and Special Times. She is a Hamburg High School graduate and is in her senior year at Canisius College, double majoring in digital media arts (Bachelor of Science degree) and communication studies (Bachelor of Arts degree).
