Marking the Roe v. Wade anniversary

LAKE VIEW — A Mass marking the observance of the 41st anniversary of the United States Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade, legalizing abortion, was held on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Blessed John Paul II Parish Community Center, located at 2052 Lakeview Road in Lake View. The most Rev. Richard Malone Th.D., bishop of Buffalo, was the main celebrant.
The diocesan office of pro-life activities will present the annual Pro-Vita Awards, which recognizes individuals who have worked for the pro-life cause. This year’s recipients include Mary Clare O’Brien, Rory Reichenberg, David Calire, Denis Coakley, Deacon Ed and Mary Zablocki and Eileen Needham.
Catholics have been asked to participate in this anniversary by placing a candle in the front window of their homes at sundown on Wednesday, Jan. 22. According to the Diocese of Buffalo, “The candle serves as a reminder of the 50 million unborn babies who have been aborted since the 1973 Supreme Court decision.”
The annual March for Life took place in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 22.
