Project Healing Waters on Feb. 25
Project Healing Waters will be at American Legion Post No. 880, located at 2912 Legion Dr. in Eden, on Monday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.
They will be giving a free presentation and show a video of past outings. Learn more about how they help disabled active duty personnel and veterans overcome the obstacles associated with their disabilities.
Poject Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings. To find out more, visit www.projecthealingwaters.org.
Hamburg UMC Lenten fish fry
Hamburg United Methodist Church is providing four fish fries during the Lenten season on Feb. 22, March 1, 22 and 29 (no fish fries on March 8 or 15).
These dinners are fundraisers to better enable the church to provide for missions and other worthwhile causes in our area.
The menu will consist of battered or broiled fish, cole slaw, potato salad, bread, a beverage, pies and homemade desserts. Chicken fingers and french fries will be available for children.
Dinners are $9.95, eat-in or take-out, $5 for children 12 and under and free for children under 5.
All Saints ‘Souper Suppers’ Feb. 27
All Saints Lutheran Church, located at 6065 South Park Ave. in Hamburg, will have a Lenten service on Wednesday, Feb. 27 featuring “Souper Suppers” at 6:30 p.m. and the Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. The Lenten theme for this service is “Facing Our Fears,” from Isaiah 41:10. Pastor David Menz will be preaching. All are welcome.
Eden C of C ‘Night at the Races’ Feb. 23
Come and join the Eden Chamber of Commerce for a “Night at the Races” on Feb. 23 at the Buffalo Raceway Clubhouse. The first race starts at 6:40 p.m.
Use the South Park entrance, park at the casino, and a free shuttle will take you to the clubhouse. Free admission and parking, with no reservations required. All are invited to attend. A free program, $2 bet ticket and a $5 casino voucher are also included.

UUCH presents sermon on Feb. 24
The Rev. Frances Manly will discuss how our lives are full of grace in her sermon, “Face to the Sky” Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets. Rev. Manly will be available for conversation during the coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are provided. All are welcome.
Home buyer workshop being held
The Town of Hamburg Department of Community Development has scheduled a two-part workshop for prospective home buyers from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and Wednesday, March 6 at Hamburg Town Hall, located at 6100 South Park Ave.
Belmont Housing Resources for WNY will present the workshops, which are free and open to the public. Advance registration is required by calling Tracie Groves at 884-7791, ext. 131.
Among the topics covered are down payment/closing cost assistance programs, match savings and mortgage products, credit and budget management, financial scam alerts, the home buying process and finding a quality home.
Hamburg Middle School fitness fair March 6
Hamburg Middle School will hold a Family Food and Fitness Fair (F4) on Wednesday, March 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Healthy food tastings, fitness classes, exhibits by local businesses and demonstrations by students will be featured. Admission is free.
This event is being sponsored by the school’s Health & Wellness Committee.
Soap box derby meeting Feb. 28
Hamburg will be hosting a local race for the All American Soap Box Derby on June 29. A planning meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Hamburg Public Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Executive Committee is currently seeking male and females racers, ages 7 to 17, and sponsors from the Western New York area.

Country Western Dance on March 2
The Hamburg Council Knights of Columbus will host a Country Western Dance on Saturday, March 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. The admission charge is $7 per person or a cap of $20 for a family which entitles you to table snacks, door prizes and a great evening of entertainment provided by Paul Zittel and his Pure Country Band. Lenten events at St. John’s
St. John’s Community Church of Eden, located at 2871 E. Church St., is holding a Lenten fish fry every Friday during Lent, running now through Friday. March 29, from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
The menu includes broiled or deep fried haddock, homemade french fires, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and dessert will also be available. The cost is $9 per person.
Benefit for Joan Lewis March 2
On Saturday, March 2, a benefit will be held for Joan (Tighe) Lewis and the Lewis family at the Iron Worker’s Hall, 196 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca from 4 to 9 p.m.
Lewis is a graduate of West Seneca West High School, Buffalo State and Canisius College. She currently is an officer at M & T Bank. She was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in April 2012. MDS is a rare, aggressive disease affecting the bone marrow and blood. In December, she underwent a bone marrow transplant at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in hopes of beginning long-term remission. She is currently going through an extensive in-home recovery period. She is married to John Lewis, and has two daughters, Alison and Lauren.
A $20 donation includes food, beer, wine, pop and music. There will be a Chinese auction, silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from Jim and Cindy Tighe at 627-5822. Monetary donations will be accepted at any M&T Bank branch under “Joan’s Journey” or can be mailed to “Joan’s Journey,” 5984 Pinehurst Court, Lakeview, N.Y. 14085.
St. Francis fish fry March 1
St. Francis of Assisi will be holding a fish fry on Friday, March 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner includes haddock, macaroni salad, coleslaw, french fries, bread and a drink. The cost is $10 for a fish dinner, $2 for a pizza dinner. For more information, call 627-3357.
