Annual spaghetti dinner April14

The 23rd annual Blessed John Paul II Holy Name Society spaghetti dinner will be held on Sunday, April 14 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the school auditorium, located at 2052 Lakeview Road.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 for children ages 5-14 and children under 5 are free.

Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, desserts, coffee, tea and milk. Beer and wine will also be available. Paul Pellicano will prepare the sauce.

Sikh Religion topic at UUCH April 7


Satpal Singh will present the message “The Sikh Faith: One Universal God-One Humanity” on Sunday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets. Singh is chairperson of the World Sikh Council-American Region and is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Buffalo. He will be available for conversation during the coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are provided. All are welcome.

Community ed. spring registration


Frontier Central Community Education’s spring classes for adults and children are beginning April 15. Brochures are now available at local libraries and at the Community Education Office, located in the Frontier Community Learning Center, 4540 Southwestern Blvd.

Registration hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. Registration and the brochure are also available online at www.frontier.wnyric.org.

Highlights of this semester include the Easy Chinese Mandarin Club, Chinese Caligraphy, Italian for Travelers, Italian Cooking, Origami, Singing Lessons for Everyone, Excel 2010 and Word 2010.

Country Porcelain artists meet April 8


Country Porcelain Artists will be meeting on Monday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Hamburg Middle School.

Club member June Walter will be presenting “Using Stamping Details to Enhance your Work.”

St. Paul Lutheran to host lecture April 16


B. G. Flickinger will be giving a lecture illustrated with colored slides titled “Flowers and Plants of the Bible, Their Meaning and Their Symbolism” on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 3487 North Boston Road in Eden.

Flickinger has four university degrees. She is a journalist and professional speaker who has been on the lecture circuit for 20 years, with TV appearances on NBC, ABC, CBS and PBS.

Lake View chicken dinner April 11


The Lake View Fire Associations’ Ladies Auxiliary and the Lake View Community Association are holding a Chiavettas chicken barebcue on Thursday, April 11 from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

The cost of the dinner is $9 and will be take-out only at Lake View Fire Station No. 2, located at 6100 Lake Shore Road.

Proceeds will benefit the Lake View Sesquicentennial.

Hamburg class of ‘73 ‘save the date’


Hamburg’s class of 1973 is planning their class reunion for the weekend of Aug. 9 and 10.

Boies-Lord fundraiser April 20


A fundraiser for the Boies-Lord Home Museum will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hamburg Methodist Church. The fundraiser is sponsored by the Hamburg Antiques Study Group and open to the public.

The fundraiser will begin with guest speaker Denise Reichard of Getzville, who portray and talk about the life of Eleanor Roosevelt. Reichard speaks in the first person about the lives of great women in history. Following the presentation there will be a Victorian tea including scones, small sandwiches and desserts. There will also be antique appraisals, door prizes and an antiques raffle.

The Boies-Lord Home is a pre-Civil War era Greek revival home that was moved from Main Street and restored and furnished as it would have been in 1850.

New hours at Connections Cafe


Connections Cafe will now be open on Saturday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. The cafe will be serving Equal Exchange Fair Trade coffee.

Equal Exchange represents a cooperative of South American farmers and artisans who are able to get a fair price for their crops. This allows them to feed their families, send their children to school and gain access to health care.

Connections Cafe also offers espressos, lattes, cappucinos, hot chocolate, tea and fresh baked pastries.

Hamburg Garden Club meets April10

The Hamburg Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, April 10 at noon at Brierwood Country Club for its 89th birthday and installation party.

The theme, “April showers bring May flowers” will focus on planting perennials for a cutting garden.

Eden UMC chicken barbecue April 14

Eden United Methodist Church, located at 2820 E. Church St., is holding a Wendell’s chicken barbecue dinner on Sunday, April 14 at noon.

The cost of the dinner is $9 and it is take-out only. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit church activities.

Dinners include a half chicken, macaroni salad, cole slaw, bread and dessert.

Local author at Eden Library April 11


Local author Darcy Thiel will speak about her recently released book, “Bitter and Sweet: A Family’s Journey with Cancer” at the Eden Library on Thursday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. Thiel’s husband was diagnosed with Stage IV gallbladder cancer at age 48 and her book takes readers through five difficult months in their lives as they face the challenges of his illness. She will share some of the bitter and sweet experiences that occurred during that time.

Country Western Dance April 6

The Hamburg Council Knights of Columbus is hosting a country western dance on Saturday, April 6 from 7 to 11 p.m.

Admission to the dance is $7 per person or $20 for a family.

Table snacks, door prizes and refreshments will be available throughout the evening. Paul Zittel and his Pure Country Band will be providing the music.

Eden Garden Club meets April 9


The Eden Garden Club is meeting April 9 at 7 p.m. at the Eden Jr./Sr. High School. The program will be “Organic Gardening,” presented by Joe Manuel.

Rummage sale at St. James April 12-13

St. James United Church of Christ is holding a rummage sale on Friday, April 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. No early bird. The church is located at 76 Main St. in Hamburg.

The cost is a $1 donation at the door. There will be food and beverages available on both days.

Mother’s Day flower sale May 11


Wayside Church, located at 5017 Lake Shore Road, is holding a Mother’s Day flower sale on Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A large selection of hanging baskets and small flowering plants will be available.

Lynne Dixon to hold office hours April 16

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon will hold office hours at the Hamburg Library, located at 102 Buffalo St., on Tuesday, April 16 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Information pertaining to senior services, social services, veteran affairs, the county clerk’s office and other county departments will be available.

Seniors Golf Club meets April 25


Hamburg Seniors Golf Club annual spring meeting will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Beach Pavilion, located at 3590 Lake Shore Road.

Stitching Showcase ‘save the date’


The Southtowns Needle Nuts Stitching Showcase will be held on the weekends of April 27-28 and May 4-5 at the Jolls House, located at 4287 S. Buffalo St. in Orchard Park.

Admission is free. Saturday hours will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m.

A towel party is being held at Oakwood Manor, VFW Post 1419, located at 2985 Lakeview Road on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
