Project Healing Waters on Feb. 25

Project Healing Waters will be at American Legion Post No. 880, located at 2912 Legion Dr. in Eden, on Monday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.

They will be giving a free presentation and showing a video of past outings. Please join us to learn more about how they help disabled active duty personnel and veterans overcome the obstacles associated with their disabilities.

Poject Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings. To find out more, visit

Hamburg UMC Lenten fish fry

Hamburg United Methodist Church is providing four fish fries during the Lenten season on Feb. 22, March 1, 22 and 29 (no fish fries on March 8 or 15).

These dinners are fundraisers to better enable the church to provide for missions and other worthwhile causes in our area.

The menu will consist of battered or broiled fish, cole slaw, potato salad, bread, a beverage, pies and homemade desserts. Chicken fingers and french fries will be available for children.

Dinners are $9.95, eat-in or take-out, $5 for children 12 and under and free for children under-5.

New support group for seriously ill

Grace for the Journey, a new support group for those who are seriously ill and their families and friends, will be held at Faith United Church of Christ. The goal of this group is to support our neighbors and friends who are going through difficult times.

The group meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the church located at 8651 Boston State Road, Boston, N.Y. The church is conveniently located four miles south of the Boston/Hamburg exit off Rte. 219. Faith United Church of Christ is a progressive Christian church where all are welcome. Hamburg Day in sunny Florida

This year’s reunion of “Hamburg Day in Sunny Florida” will be held at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant in Tampa, Fla. on March 2, 2013.

Faith UCC Sunday school available

Faith United Church of Christ Sunday school has classes available for ages 3 and older. Sunday school classes are divided by age level with classes for Pre-K through Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and for adults. Classes start at 9:00 a.m.

Round and Square Dance Feb. 16

A Round and Square Dance is being held on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Hall located at 10893 Sisson Hwy. in Langford.

Music will be provided by Pure Country with Paul Zittel. Pizza, beer, pop and snacks will also be available.

Admission is $25 for families, $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 10-15.

Hamburg library Wii tourney on Feb. 16

The Hamburg Public Library, located at 102 Buffalo St., is holding an all-ages Wii tournament featuring prizes and refreshments on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. The tournament is free, and open to the public. Stop by the library or call 649-4415 to register.

Pistol permit safety course on Feb. 16

Erie County is holding a pistol permit safety class on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. at the Hamburg Town Hall, located at 6100 South Park Ave.

The class includes pistol permit paperwork for Erie County, notary and a hands on safety course.

The class will run three hours, and costs $50. Class size is limited to 25. To register, call 824-3951.

Book signing on

Feb. 16 and 17

Anthony Antek, the author of “Bipolar Buffalo - A Mosaic of Minds Journey,” will be holding a book signing event on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 22nd annual Train and Toy Show at the Erie County Fairgrounds Expo Hall.

UUCH presents sermon on Feb. 17

Mary Travers Murphy, executive director of the Family Justice Center will present the sermon on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets. Murphy will speak about the center’s mission and the services the FJC provides to clients to safely and successfully escape abusive relationships. Murphy will be available for conversation during the coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are provided. All are welcome.

Lenten events at St. Matthew’s UCC

St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, located at 5289 McKinley Pkwy., invites you to journey with them during Lent. Every Tuesday in Lent at 7 p.m., starting Feb. 19, “24 Hours That Changed the World,” a DVD series by Adam Hamilton, will be shown. On Wednesdays at 6 p.m., starting Feb. 20, a Lenten soup supper and short vesper service will be held.

The Youth Mission Group of St. Matthew’s is also hosting a Lenten Fish Supper on March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. which is take-out only.

St. John’s

St. John’s Community Church of Eden, located at 2871 E. Church St., is holding a Lenten fish fry every Friday during Lent, starting on Friday, Feb. 15 through Friday. March 29, from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

The menu includes broiled or deep fried haddock, homemade french fires, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and dessert will also be available. The cost is $9 per person.

E. Eden Home Bureau meeting Feb. 19

The East Eden Home Bureau is holding a business meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The craft is a decorated foil box.

First Congregational

pasta dinner Feb. 17

First Congregational UCC, located at 132 N. Main St. in Angola, will be holding a pasta dinner on Sunday, Feb. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or until the food is sold out. Take-out is available.

Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, bread with butter, dessert and a beverage. Adults are $7, children 6 to 12-years-old are $4.50 and children ages 5 and under are free.

N. Evans Fire Co. fish fry on Feb. 15

The North Evans Vol. Fire Co., located at 6988 Versailles Plank Road will be hosting a Fish Fry on Friday Feb. 15 and March 1, 15 and 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. Fish (battered or broiled) or fried shrimp will be served with french fries and includes our endless salad bar containing potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, and chef salad. Kids portions also available. Cash bar will be available for beer, wine and pop.

Eden C of C ‘Night at the Races’ Feb. 23

Come and join the Eden Chamber of Commerce for a “Night at the Races” on Feb. 23 at the Buffalo Raceway Clubhouse. The first race starts at 6:40 p.m.

Use the South Park entrance, park at the casino, and a free shuttle will take you to the clubhouse. Free admission and parking, with no reservations required. All are invited to attend. A free program, $2 bet ticket and a $5 casino voucher are also included.

World Day of Prayer service March 1

The Boston Community World Day of Prayer service will be held on Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ, located at 8651 Boston State Road. The theme will be “I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me,” written by the women of France.

All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served following the service.

All Saints ‘Souper Suppers’ Feb. 20

All Saints Lutheran Church, located at 6065 South Park Ave. in Hamburg, invites you to their Lenten service on Wednesday, Feb. 20 featuring “Souper Suppers” at 6:30 p.m. and the Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. The Lenten theme for this service is “Facing Temptation,” from Hebrews 4:14-15. Soap box derby meeting Feb. 28

Hamburg will be hosting a local race for the All American Soap Box Derby on June 29. A meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Hamburg Public Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Executive Committee is currently seeking male and females racers, ages 7 to 17, and sponsors from the Western New York area. Connections Cafe book exchange Feb. 15

Connections Cafe, located at 107 Main St. in Hamburg, will be open Friday, Feb. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m., featuring a book exchange. Donate your pre-read books to the Connections Cafe library and browse through the collection for a book that catches your interest, all while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Frontier 5-hour class March 20

Frontier Central Community Education will be offering a 5-hour driving class on March 20, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The class will be held at the Frontier Community Learning Center, 4540 Southwestern Blvd. You must have a valid New York State Learners Permit and registration is necessary. Mt. Mercy fish fry Feb. 15

Mount Mercy Academy is holding a fish fry in the Dining Hall, located at 88 Red Jacket Pkwy. in South Buffalo.

The dinner will be $9 pre-sale and $10 at the door. The kid’s meal will be chicken fingers for $7. Eat-in or take-out are both available.

Chinese New Year event on Feb. 16

Join the Red Dragon School of Martial Arts on Saturday, Feb. 16 as they welcome the Chinese New Year. Celebrate the Year of the Snake with Chinese music, dance, culture and martial arts demonstrations at the McKinley Mall. Watch Joseph Schaffer Jr. as he attempts to promote to his junior black belt. This is Red Dragon’s first junior black belt promotion since Sifu Robert Gott’s opening of the school in 2002. Joseph is the son of proud parents Joseph and Lisa Schaffer and a student at Hamburg Middle School. He joined the school in 2005. His father and two brothers have also joined the school.

Hamburg World Day of Prayer March 1

Women, men and children in more than 170 countries and regions will celebrate World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 1. Hamburg will celebrate the World Day of Prayer at All Saints Lutheran Church, located at 6065 South Park Ave.

The women of France, this year’s writer-country, have chosen the theme “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

The annual offering supports the work of World Day of Prayer USA and helps meet the needs of families in France and around the world who are victims of many forms of poverty, violence, discrimination and other injustice.
