Local church fights domestic violence

HAMBURG — Hamburg Presbyterian Church, located at 177 Main St., will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Sunday on Oct. 27.

An educational event, open to the public, will be held from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m., to address Hamburg resources available for both women and men who are struggling with family violence.

A “breaking the silence service” will be held from 10:30 – 11:30. This morning worship service will include an examination of a Biblical text, a skit and prayers centered around the theme of breaking silence, forgiveness and unity in stopping domestic violence.

The church has asked attendees to wear purple in solidarity with national domestic violence awareness month and to bring a cash donation or cleaning supply to help the Kathleen Mary House, an agency that provides transitional housing for women and children who are escaping domestic violence in the community.
