Chicken barbecue being held June 1

A chicken barbecue by Stu, Bob, Toni and Tony will be held on Saturday, June 1 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 930 Lake St., Angola from noon to 4 p.m.

The cost is $8.75, and takeout is available until 5 p.m.

Faith UCC Worship schedule

Sunday morning worship at Faith United Church of Christ begins at 10:15 a.m. and concludes at approximately 11:15 a.m. All are welcome.

Craft and bake sale in Boston June 15

On Saturday, June 15, Churchill Memorial United Methodist Church will host its annual Bake and Craft Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The day will offer homemade pies, cakes, cookies, muffins and many other treats. As well, handmade arts and crafts by local area artisans will be available to purchase. A theme basket auction will also be held. Winners will be drawn that day and they do not have to be present to win.

Craft space is still available. If you are a crafter and are interested in renting a 10’ x 10’ space, you can send a $25 check, made out to Churchill Memorial UMC, to Fundraising Chair at 7722 Omphalius Road, Colden, NY 14033. Along with your check, please include a list of what you are selling, your phone number and email address. For questions or if you need to rent tables or chairs, call Anne at (716) 597-9775.

Churchill Memorial is located at 8019 Boston State Road, on the corner of Boston State Road and Omphalius Road.

Faith UCC Sunday school available

Faith United Church of Christ Sunday School has classes available for ages 3 and older. Sunday School classes are divided by age level with classes for Pre-K through Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and for adults. Classes start at 9 a.m.

‘Coffee hour’ with Collins May 25

Boston Supervisor Martin Ballowe announced a “coffee hour” with Congressman Chris Collins for Town of Boston residents on Saturday, May 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Coffee hour will be held in the community room at the town hall.

Boston seeks names for Memorial Day

The Town of Boston Memorial Day Committee is seeking names of soldiers (present or former Boston residents), who are currently serving in the United States Military. These soldiers will be recognized at the annual Memorial Day service, Monday May 27 at 1:15 p.m. at the Boston Town Park.

Please submit the following information: name of soldier, active or reserve, unit, and serving location to Jennifer A. Mulé, Town Clerk 941-6113 ext. 16 or by Friday, May 24.

Five hour course June 5 at Frontier

Frontier Central Community Education will be offering a five hour driving class on Wednesday, June 5 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The class will be held at the Community Learning Center, 4540 Southwestern Blvd. in Hamburg.

Registration is necessary and participants must have a valid New York State Learner’s Permit. The cost is $30.

Conecctions Cafe, 107 Main St. in Hamburg, is holding a trivia night on Saturday, May 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. Form a team and win a gift card to an area pizzeria.

Battle of the Books meetings May 23 & 25

The Hamburg Public Library will be hosting two informational meetings for this year’s Battle of the Books Competition on Thursday May 23 at 4 p.m. and Saturday May 25 at 3 p.m.

The library is forming teams to compete in a reading competition for young adults entering grades six through nine, against participants from libraries all over Erie County.

Reading dog returns to Hamburg library

The Hamburg Public Library invites children to stop in to visit Ginger, the “Tail Waggin’ Tutor,” a reading therapy dog trained through Therapy Dogs International to be a non-judgmental listener and a great encouragement to struggling readers. She will be coming back to the Hamburg Library on Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m.

The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. at J.P. Fitzgerald’s at 4236 Clark St., for the installation dinner.

Women’s Friendship Club meets June 3

The Southtowns Women’s Friendship Club will meet on Monday, June 3 at 6 p.m. at J.P. Fitzgerald’s restaurant in Hamburg for the annual installation banquet.

Flea market items being accepted

Donations of items to be sold at the Boies-Lord Home Fundraiser Flea Market are being accepted. Items to be donated may be brought to the house on Tuesday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The house is located at 5853 South Park Ave.

Call 649-9232 to make other arrangements if the times do not work. All types of items are being accepted, except clothes and books, unless they are antique.

The flea market fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boies-Lord Home. The rain date is Saturday, June 15.

Annual plant sale benefit June 1 & 2

The fourth annual plant sale to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of WNY will be held on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5041 Lake Shore Road in Lake View.

Annual Buffalo Feis at Fairgrounds June 1

The Irish Cultural and Folk Art Association of Western New York presents the 47th annual Buffalo Feis at The Fairgrounds Event Center and Expo Hall on Saturday, June 1 at 7 a.m.

The event will feature dance, language and music competitions located in the Event Center. Expo Hall will house the entry desk, posting of results/award pickup, memorabilia, art events, soda bread, and an array of vendors.

UUCH hosts transition topic

The Rev. Frances Manly will speak about new starting points in life in her sermon “Standing In The Doorway” on Sunday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets.

Rev. Manly has served the congregation for seven years as consulting minister and will retire with her last sermon on June 23rd.

Rev. Manly will be available for conversation during the coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are provided.

Taxpayers Assoc. meets May 28

The Scranton-McKinley Taxpayers Association will meet on Tuesday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the rear hall of the Scranton Fire Station on Scranton Road.

North Collins

N. C. Bottle and can drive on June 1

North Collins High School is holding its Biannual Bottle and Can Drive on Saturday, June 1.

Residents are asked to help by saving 5 and 10 cent returnable cans and bottles and donating them to the high school.

Please gather your 5 or 10 cent returnable cans and bottles and place them in a bag marked “MBC”. To minimize going door to door, please place your donation at the curb or near your door before 10 a.m. on June 1.

High School students will be in the neighborhood Saturday morning to pick up your donation. Please do not put them out the night before as they may be picked up by someone other than our volunteers. You can also drop off your cans in person at the high school prior to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

The funds raised will benefit both the Marine Biology Club and next year’s seniors, the Class of 2014.

Free rabies clinic to be held May 29

Organized by the Erie County Department of Health, in partnership with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society and the SPCA, serving Erie County, the rabies clinic is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Erie Community College’s South Campus, Building No. 7 – Maintenance Garage, 4401 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
