St. Pat’s Quizmaster show March 14

The Dennis George Quizmaster Game Show will hold an early bird St. Patrick’s Day show at J.P. Fitzgerald’s on March 14 at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

Faith UCC Sunday school available


Faith United Church of Christ Sunday school has classes available for ages 3 and older. Sunday school classes are divided by age level with classes for Pre-K through Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and for adults. Classes start at 9:00 a.m.

N. Evans Fire Co. fish fry on March 15


The North Evans Vol. Fire Co., located at 6988 Versailles Plank Road will be hosting a Fish Fry on Friday March 15 and 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. Fish (battered or broiled) or fried shrimp will be served with french fries and includes our endless salad bar containing potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, and chef salad. Kids portions also available. Cash bar will be available for beer, wine and pop. Take-out orders can be called in at 627-3410.

New support group for seriously ill

Grace for the Journey, a new support group for those who are seriously ill and their families and friends, will be held at Faith United Church of Christ. The goal of this group is to support our neighbors and friends who are going through difficult times.

The group meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the church located at 8651 Boston State Road, Boston. The church is conveniently located four miles south of the Boston/Hamburg exit off Route. 219.

Frontier 5-hour class March 20

Frontier Central Community Education will be offering a 5-hour driving class on March 20, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The class will be held at the Frontier Community Learning Center, 4540 Southwestern Blvd. You must have a valid New York State Learners Permit and registration is necessary. Emerson Home Bureau meeting

The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in room 114 at the Hamburg Middle School. The craft items will be a spider lace pillow and a beaded ladder necklace. New members are welcome.

Hamburg UMC Lenten fish fry

Hamburg United Methodist Church is providing fish fries during the Lenten season on March 22 and 29.

These dinners are fundraisers to better enable the church to provide for missions and other worthwhile causes in our area.

The menu will consist of battered or broiled fish, cole slaw, potato salad, bread, a beverage, pies and homemade desserts. Chicken fingers and french fries will be available for children.

Dinners are $9.95, eat-in or take-out, $5 for children 12 and under and free for children under-5.

Lenten events at St. John’s


St. John’s Community Church of Eden, located at 2871 E. Church St., is holding a Lenten fish fry every Friday during Lent, running through Friday. March 29, from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

The menu includes broiled or deep fried haddock, homemade french fires, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and dessert will also be available. The cost is $9 per person.

Quota chicken BBQ being held March 9


Quota International of Hamburg is hosting a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue to benefit Quota’s service and scholarship fund.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hamburg Community Center, located at 107 Prospect Ave.

Dinners are $8.50 and are take-out only.

Lenten events at St. Matthew’s UCC


St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, located at 5289 McKinley Pkwy., invites you to journey with them during Lent. Every Tuesday in Lent at 7 p.m., “24 Hours That Changed the World,” a DVD series by Adam Hamilton, will be shown. On Wednesdays at 6 p.m., a Lenten soup supper and short vesper service will be held.

The Youth Mission Group of St. Matthew’s is also hosting a Lenten Fish Supper on March 15, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. which is take-out and dine-in.

All are welcome for Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m.

Sabres alumni b-ball game March 14

A basketball game featuring Buffalo Sabres alumni vs. Hamburg school’s staff is set for Thursday, March 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Dr. This game is being hosted by the Hamburg Schools soft ball program.

Tickets are $7 at the door or $5 pre-sale. Pre-sale tickets are available from 3 to 4 p.m. weekdays in the high school front foyer.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available to businesses. A $25 sponsorship buys an advertisement in the program and gym during the event, and two tickets with preferential seating.

UUCH hosts wisdom topic March 10


The Rev. Donald J. Reidell will reflect on human wisdom in his sermon “A Word for the Wise” on Sunday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets.

The church school children, guided by Megan Swanson, have shipped a collection of toys, school supplies and letters for our soldiers to give to Afghani children in Afghnaistan. Religious education and child care are provided. All are welcome.

Round and Square Dance March16

A Round and Square Dance is being held on Saturday, March 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Hall located at 10893 Sisson Highway. in Langford.

Music will be provided by Pure Country with Paul Zittel. Pizza, beer, pop and snacks will also be available.

Admission is $25 for families, $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 10-15.

Food Not Bombs talk March 19

A talk will be presented on Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at the Great Harvest Bread Company, located at 18 Buffalo St. in Hamburg. Hear about Food Not Bombs, a worldwide grass roots movement sharing free food in public places as a protest against war and waste, and a life affirming act supporting harmony and community. Hamburg antiques study group March 8


Hamburg Antiques Study Group will meet Friday, March 8 at the Hamburg Community Center located at 107 Prospect Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

This month’s meeting features HASG President Marcia VanBrocklin speaking on the history of the Boies-Lord Home Museum. Members will be updated on the history of the last 33 years and see examples of the museum’s contents. Guests and new members are welcome. WNY Sport and Travel Expo

The Western New York Sport and Travel Expo is being held at the Fairgrounds Event Center, Expo, Grange and Marketplace buildings on Thursday, March 7 through Sunday, March 10. Show hours are: Thursday and Friday noon to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Frontier PTSA meeting March 13

Benefit for Dom and Zac on March 10

Family and friends are holding a benefit on Sunday, March 10 at Newell-Faulkner Post 880 American Legion, located at 2912 Legion Drive in Eden, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. for Dominic and Zachary Proudman, 10-year-old twins who were admitted to the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Md. on Dec. 17.

Shortly after their birth in March 2002, Dom and Zac were diagnosed with cerebral palsy and periventricular leukomalacia. Since then, the twins have had numerous surgeries and have overcome many challenges in their short life, but continued on a downward spiral.

The boys have g-tubes inserted for nutritional support and are dependent on them. Due to this dependency, the boys were accepted into the nutritional program at Kennedy Krieger. The additional support the boys need will not be covered, including travel expenses, lodging and normal daily expenses that continue to mount.

Snacks, beer, soda, a 50/50 drawing, Chinese auction and music by Seitz and Sounds will be provided at the benefit. A flat screen TV will be the door prize. To purchase pre-sale tickets, call 992-3155. Donations can also be deposited at M&T Bank made out to Proudman Benefit.

WNY Equine Fest March 17


The 2013 Western New York Equine Fest is being held on Sunday, March 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Showplex Arena at the Hamburg Fairgrounds.

This is a free, family-friendly equine event featuring some of the area’s top clinicians and trainers in two rings, making the experience bigger and better this year.

Professionals include Katherine Barbarite - Partnership and Confidence Building Horsemanship, Frank Schlossin -reining, Leah Hunt- trick riding, and jumping with Andrea Boon and the Houghton College Equestrian Team.

Over 100 vendors are scheduled to display an array of merchandise at this event.

Featured new this year is the “Family Fun Corral,” which is hands-on, kid and teen friendly games and projects.

Refreshments available on-site with free-parking.

Hospice bouquets available


For the 11th year in a row, the West Herr Automotive Group is the top corporate sales site of the Hospice Spring Bouquet Sale – the largest community wide event for Hospice Buffalo. Hundreds of Hospice Buffalo Spring Bouquets were delivered Tuesday, March 5 to West Herr Ford on Camp Road in Hamburg. West Herr employees ordered a total of 611 bouquets among their 18 locations- the largest number of bouquets for the Corporate Sale of the Hospice Buffalo fund raiser. Many of the colorful bouquets will be delivered to West Herr Ford and distributed to employees in the showroom.

The beautiful spring bouquets can be purchased for just $8 through March 8 at Erie County First Niagara branches, select Dunkin’ Donuts and Wendy’s locations, area florists, hospitals and public building sites to benefit patients and families cared for by Hospice Buffalo. Eden UMC spaghetti dinner

Eden United Methodist Church, located at 2820 East Church St., is holding an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, March 20 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread and butter, coffee and dessert. Adults cost $7 and children five to 12 are $4.50.

St. Francis healing service March 12

A Healing Service will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, located at 4263 St Francis on Tuesday, March 12 at 7 p.m.

Following a reading from Scripture, everyone will be invited to come forward to receive the imposition of hands by the celebrant.

Those who approach are invited to quietly share with the priest what their special prayer, concern, or intention is, whether it be healing for something physical, emotional, familial or spiritual. Several priests will be available for The Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession).

Used clothing drop-off box

A used clothing drop-off box is available at St. James U.C.C., located at 76 Main St. in Hamburg. Donations of clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, blankets, sheets and curtains can be made there.

Corned beef dinner March 16

Churchill Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 8019 Boston State Road, is holding a corned beef and cabbage dinner on Saturday, March 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 pre-sale and $10 at the door. Call 941-5142.

Hamburg Garden Club meets March 13

The Hamburg Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, March 13 at noon at the Hamburg Community Center, located at 107 Prospect Avenue. Following a business meeting, Michael Masterson, of Masterson’s Landscaping and Lawn Care, will speak about the benefits of aquatic plants and how to add them to gardens.
