Eden

BBQ chicken and family fun day May 11


Eden Cooperative Nursery School will be hosting its 8th Annual Barbecue and Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barbecue dinners will be provided by Weidner’s BBQ and featured activities include a basket raffle, lottery tree, face painting, balloon animals, stuffed animal veterinary clinic, family dance music, trucks to touch and a rummage sale.

Tickets are $10 per person at the door. Tickets may also be purchase pre-sale at the same cost by contacting the school at 992-3344.

Chicken barbecue in Eden on May 5


Immaculate Conception Church, 8791 Main St., Eden, is holding a chicken barbecue on Sunday, May 5 at 11:30 a.m.

The cost for adults is $10, and $5 for children. Take-outs are available.

Hamburg


Hamburg football breakfast April 27

The Hamburg Football Program is holding a pancake breakfast on Saturday, April 27 in the Hamburg High School cafeteria from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

The cost is $6 per person with children under 6 free. Raffles, a Chinese auction and gift baskets will also be available.

Reverse mortgage day May 3

M&T Bank is sponsoring a reverse mortgage day for senior homeowners on Friday, May 3 at the bank’s Hamburg branch, 6000 South Park Ave.

Appointments are available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Call 649-8401 to make a reservation.

12th Spring Dairy Preview on May 10-11

The 12th Annual Spring Dairy Preview will be held on May 10 and 11 in the Showplex building.

The show will be judged by Shaun Merrill from Geneva and there will be over $2,500 to win in awards and premiums.

The show is designed specifically for dairy cattle exhibitors, giving them a chance to bring their animals out in a “pre-season” show to see how they compare against competition.

All animals must be registered with a breed association (i.e. The Holstein Association) to show. Check with breed associations for more information about registering animals. The early entry deadline is Friday, April 26. Entries will also be accepted until Friday, May 10 at noon, but for a higher fee.

Animals must be in place by noon on Friday, May 10. Youth Team Fitting will begin at 4 p.m., with Junior Showmanship at 7 p.m. being judged by Zack Welker of Batavia. On Saturday, May 11, the Breed Show will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Boy Scout spaghetti dinner April 27

Boy Scout Troop 890 will be having a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, April 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Social Center gym at St. Francis of Assisi Church.

The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Children under 3 are free.

Town of Hamburg clean-up on May 4

The 18th annual town-wide clean-up sponsored by the Hamburg Rejuvenation Project in conjunction with the villages of Hamburg and Blasdell is scheduled for Saturday, May 4.

Kick-off begins at 8:30 a.m. at Hamburg Town Hall, 6100 South Park Ave. At that time, volunteers will receive locations, maps, safety instructions and clean-up supplies.

Volunteers can partake in a hot dog lunch provided by area vendors.

Reading dog returns to Hamburg library


The Hamburg Public Library invites children to stop in to visit Ginger, the “Tail Waggin’ Tutor,” a reading therapy dog trained through Therapy Dogs International to be a non-judgmental listener and a great encouragement to struggling readers. She will be coming back to the Hamburg Library on Saturdays starting April 27 and continuing on May 11 and May 25 at 10 a.m.

Summer fitness center memberships


The Town Park Fitness Center is offering a summer membership special to college students for $50. Town residency is required to be eligible.

The price of the membership includes a resident discount card and parking pass for the Hamburg Town Park and the Fitness Center. Membership includes one free workout with a personal trainer and a free personalized workout plan.

Emerson Home Bureau meeting


The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday,April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Hamburg Middle School cafeteria. There will be a business meeting and a wooden bird house craft project.

Benefit for Wray-Enser family April 28


A benefit will be held on Sunday, April 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. at J&M’s West End Inn, 340 Union St., Hamburg, for the Wray-Enser family.

Just hours after opening Christmas gifts, the Wray-Enser Pleasant Avenue home was engulfed in flames. Everyone got out safely but their home and all belongings, including the entire Christmas, was a total loss.

There will be live entertainment, a Chinese auction, 50/50s, food, pop and beer for a donation of $20. For more information, call 648-7578 or email wrayenser@gmail.com.

Mother’s Day flower sale May 11


Wayside Church, located at 5017 Lake Shore Road, is holding a Mother’s Day flower sale on Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A large selection of hanging baskets and small flowering plants will be available.

Motherless Daughters Group


The Motherless Daughters Group will meet on Wednesday, May 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Circle of Daughters, Inc., 4263 St. Francis Drive, Hamburg.

The cost is $10 and is open to women who have lost their mothers through death.

Soap Box Derby meeting April 25


The All American Soap Box Derby is holding a planning meeting on Thursday, April 25 at the Hamburg Public Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

They are currently seeking male and female Racers from ages 7 to 17 and sponsors from the Western New York area for the local race on Saturday, June 29 in the Village of Hamburg.

Beef Classic at Fairgrounds May 4 -5


The Erie County Agricultural Society, Hamburg Casino, Trowbridge Farms, Sarkaria Farms, and Hidden Acres Angus are proud to present the New Empire State Beef Classic on May 4 and 5 in the Showplex building on the Fairgrounds in Hamburg.

This is a show that is open to exhibitors of all ages; it gives individuals experience prior to showing at their local county and/or state fair. A free fitting clinic will be offered Saturday May 4 at 9 a.m. by Bob May of May Cattle Company, Mineral Springs, Wis. Showmanship classes will be held at 7 p.m. with the judge being Tavis Shane of Fletcher, Ohio. The Open Heifer Show followed by the Open Steer Show will be on Sunday May 5 at 8 a.m. with the judge being Cassie Johnson from Cushing, Iowa.

The early entry deadline is April 19. Late entries will be accepted up until noon on Saturday, May 4. The show will have a Junior Team Fitting Competition on Saturday May 4 which will be followed by an exhibitor dinner.

Lake View

Lake View Home Bureau meets May 1


The Lake View Home Bureau will hold its monthly business meeting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1 in the hall at Fire Station No. 1 on Lakeview Road.

Members will review the by-laws, discuss year-end donations to charities and finalize plans for the installation luncheon on May 29 and the picnic on July 31.

A homemade soup luncheon will follow. All are welcome.

Orchard Park

Stitching Showcase April 27-28, May 4-5


The Southtowns Needle Nuts Stitching Showcase will be held on the weekends of April 27-28 and May 4-5 at the Jolls House, located at 4287 S. Buffalo St. in Orchard Park.

Admission is free. Saturday hours will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m.
