2013 Easter Services for Hamburg, Eden, Derby, Angola, Boston, Farnham, Brant, Evans, Blasdell, Gowanda, Orchard Park

Hamburg

Hamburg Unitarian Universalist Church

Hamburg Unitarian Universalist Church, located at the corner of Union and Center streets in the Village of Hamburg will have Reverend Frances Manly present her sermon “Passion and Resurrection” on Easter Sunday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m.

A holiday coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are available. All are welcome.

St. Mary of the Lake Church

St. Mary of the Lake, 4737 Lakeshore Road in Hamburg, will have Holy Thursday Mass on March 28 at 7 p.m. with Liturgy of the Lord’s Last Supper.

On Good Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m. there will be a Solemn Liturgy of the Passion and Death of Christ.

On Holy Saturday, March 30 at noon there will be a Blessing of Easter food baskets and the Easter Vigil at 8 p.m.; on Easter Sunday, March 31, Mass will be held at 9 and 11 a.m.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, 261 E. Main St., will hold several events and services to celebrate the miracle of Easter.

On March 28, Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m., there will be a Mass with foot-washing.

The Good Friday Liturgy will be said at noon and at 7 p.m. on March 29. Holy Saturday events begin at 9 a.m. on March 30. Experience the Great Vigil of Easter and First-Fire at 7 p.m.

Easter Mass will be held on Easter Sunday morning, March 31, at 7:45 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The Wesleyan Church

The Wesleyan Church of Hamburg, located at 4999 McKinley Parkway, Easter weekend services will include contemporary services in the Worship Center on Saturday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 31 at 9:30 and 11 a.m. A more traditional Heritage Service, which will include a celebrative selection of traditional hymns, will be held at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel. Pastor Greg McClain will lead us in celebrating the joy that Christ’s resurrection brings. Programs are offered for children through fifth grade during all services. SS. Peter and Paul Church


SS. Peter and Paul Church, located at 66 E. Main St., will observe Holy Thursday on March 28 with a morning prayer at 9 a.m. and Mass at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, March 29, morning prayer will be held at 9 a.m., a veneration of the Cross and Communion service will be held at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m., there will be a Quiet Waters’ production of “Sorrow,” the Rosary Musical.

On Holy Saturday, March 30, morning prayer will be held at 9 a.m., followed by blessing of Easter food at 2 p.m. An Easter Vigil will begin at 8:30 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. For information, call 649-2765.

All Saints Lutheran Church


All Saints Lutheran Church, 6065 South Park Ave., will hold a Maundy Thursday service on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. with a Communion service.

On Good Friday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m., there will be a Tenebrae Service in the round and stripping of the Altar.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be a Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m., a full breakfast at 8 a.m. and a Festival Service at 10:30 a.m.

First Baptist Church


First Baptist Church of Hamburg, 120 Main St. will hold a Good Friday presentation on Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. titled “For Such a One as This.”

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be an 8 a.m. Sunrise service. A regular Morning Service will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Hamburg United Methodist Church


Hamburg United Methodist Church, 116 Union St., will hold a Maundy Thursday service on March 28 at 7 p.m. There will be a Good Friday vigil on March 29 from noon to 3 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be a Contemporary Service at 8:30 a.m. and a Traditional Service at 11 a.m. There will be no Sunday School.

St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ

St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, located at 5289 McKinley Parkway, will hold a service at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, March 28. On Good Friday, March 29, there will be a open prayer vigil from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be a 7 a.m. Sunrise Service at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, 180 French Road, West Seneca, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Coffee Fellowship at St. Matthew’s UCC. A festive Easter service will be held at 10:30 a.m.

St. Francis of Assisi Church


St. Francis of Assisi Church, located at 4263 Saint Francis Dr., will observe Holy Thursday on March 28 with Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, March 29, there will be Stations of the Cross at noon, Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3 p.m. and a Meditation on The Seven Last Words of Christ at 7 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 30, there will be a Blessing of Food at 1 p.m. in the Social Center and Easter Vigil at 8:30 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, Masses will be held at 8, 10 and 11:30 a.m. There will be no 6 p.m. Mass.

St. James United Church of Christ

St. James United Church of Christ, 76 Main St., Hamburg will observe Holy On Maundy Thursday, March 28, there will be a soup supper, followed by a worship at 7:30 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 29, there will be a service at 6:30 p.m. using portions of the The Great Vigil of Easter Service.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, services will be held at 10 a.m. The Chancel Choir will provide special choral music for our services and Communion will be celebrated. Child care will be provided for children ages 4 and under during the service. There will be no church school, but a special Enrichment time for children in the Horton Lounge. An Easter egg hunt for children will follow the service. For further information contact Patty Jensen at 649-6171.

Grace Lutheran Church


Grace Lutheran Church, 6220 McKinley Parkway, will hold a special Tenebrae Service on Good Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m.

It will celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord on Easter Sunday, March 31 with a service with open Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. featuring music by Amy Grabau.

Both services will be conducted by Rev. Lynn Scarpine.

Wayside Presbyterian Church


The Wayside Presbyterian Church, 5017 Lakeshore Road, will have a Maundy Thursday Communion Service on March 28 at 7:30 p.m.

A Good Friday Service will be held on March 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Easter Sunday services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on March 31.

Old Time Baptist Church

Old Time Baptist Church of Hamburg, 5599 Camp Road will hold a Resurrection Sunday service on Easter Sunday, March 31 with special live music, Bible readings and a message from Pastor Louis J. Guadagno.

Service times will be 10 a.m. for Sunday school, 11 a.m. for the morning service and 6:30 p.m. for the evening service.

Orchard Park

St. Bernadette Church


St. Bernadette Church, 5930 S. Abbott Road, will observe Holy Thursday, March 28, with a Friendship Supper at 6 p.m. A Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be held at 7:30 p.m. Chapel will be open for silent meditation until midnight.

On Good Friday, March 29, Morning Prayer will be held at 9 a.m. Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion with Veneration of the Cross will be at 3 p.m. Prayer at the Cross Tenebrae Service with Veneration of the Cross, at 7 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 30, Morning Prayer will be held at 9 a.m. Blessing of the Food Baskets will be at 2 p.m. The Great Easter Vigil (Mass) will be at 7:48 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, Masses will be held at 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m.

Boston

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church


Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7630 Boston State Road, will observe Maundy Thursday on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, March 29, there will be a supper at Faith United Church of Christ at 5:30 p.m., followed by a service at 7:30 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be an Easter breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The breakfast will be followed by Easter Festive Worship at 9:30 a.m.

Churchill Memorial United Methodist Church


Churchill Memorial United Methodist Church, 8019 Boston State Road, will observe Good Friday, March 29 with a 7:30 p.m. service. The church will be joined by members of Faith United Church of Christ in Boston, will join in worship to remember and reflect Jesus’ last words upon the Cross.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, a celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, with Faith UCC, will begin at 7 a.m. with a Sunrise Service at the end of Omphalius Road and Lower East Hill on the Kollatz’ property. Breakfast will follow for all at Churchhill UMC. The regular service will be held at 10:45 a.m.

Faith United Church of Christ


Faith United Church of Christ, 8651 Boston State Road, will hold Maundy Thursday Service on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday services will be held on March 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Easter Sunday Worship service will be held on March 31 at 10:15 a.m.

Eden

Eden United Methodist Church


The Eden United Methodist Church, located at 2820 East Church St., will celebrate Holy Week beginning with a Maundy Thursday service on March 28 at 7 p.m. This service will feature readings and skits by members of the congregation and Holy Communion.

On March 29 at 1 p.m., St. John’s Community Church will join with Eden UMC for the Good Friday Service at Eden UMC.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be an Easter Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. followed by a morning worship service at 10 a.m., led by Reverend Helen Hadley. The church is handicapped accessible.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church


St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3487 North Boston Road in Eden, will prepare for Easter with three services during Holy Week.

A Maundy Thursday service will be held on March 28 at 7 p.m. to commemorate the Institution of the Lord’s Supper with Holy Communion celebrated.

Good Friday, March 29 will be observed at noon and at 7 p.m. with the traditional Tenebrae Service, using the effect of diminishing lights and candles to show the meaning of Christ’s suffering and death.

Easter Sunday, March 31, observances will begin with an Easter Breakfast served by the senior high youth group from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m. Festival Services will be at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m.

St. John’s Community Church of Eden

St. John’s Community Church of Eden, 2781 East Church St., will hold join with Eden United Methodist Church for a Good Friday service on March 29 at 1 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be a Sunrise Service at 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast for all at 8:30 a.m. A traditional service with Holy Communion will be held at 10 a.m.

Immaculate Conception

Immaculate Conception Church in Eden, located at 8791 South Main St., will hold a Mass of the Lord’s supper on Holy Thursday, March 28 at 7 p.m. Services will be held on Good Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m. with a Solemn service. Stations of the Cross will be held that evening at 7 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 30, there will be the Blessing of the food baskets at noon and an Easter Vigil at 7:30 p.m.

Easter Sunday services will be held on March 31 at 8 and 11 a.m.

Derby

First Church of Evans

The First Church of Evans, located at Route 5 and Sturgeon Point Road in Derby, will observe Maundy Thursday on March 28 at the First Church of Evans Community House. There will be a choral prelude at 7 p.m. and an upper room Communion service at 7:30 p.m.

A Good Friday prayer vigil will be held on March 29 at the First Church of Evans from 3 to 8 p.m.

Easter Sunday celebrations will be held on March 31 with a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. at First Church Cemetery, followed by a continental breakfast at the Community House. A worship service will be held at 10 a.m. from the church.

Farnham

Holy Cross Lutheran Church

Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 633 Church St., will hold an Easter Sunday Resurrection Service on March 31 at 10:30 a.m.

Lake View


Blessed John Paul II Parish

Blessed John Paul II, located at 2052 Lakeview Road, will observe Holy Thursday, March 28, with a Liturgy of the Hours at 8:30 a.m. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be held in the main church at 7:30 p.m. This will be followed by  Nocturnal Adoration until midnight in the little church.

On Good Friday, March 29, there will be Liturgy of the Hours at 9 a.m., celebration of the Lord’s Passion with veneration of the cross and Holy Communion at 3 p.m. and Stations of the Cross and Tenebrae Service at 7 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 30, there will be morning prayer at 8:30 a.m., Blessing of the Easter food baskets at 1 p.m. and the Easter Vigil Mass with the Baptism and Reception of Catechumens and Confirmation at 8 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, the Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 8 and 9:30 a.m. and at noon.

Southtowns Christian Center


Southtowns Christian Center, 6619 Southwestern Blvd., will have a Good Friday service, March 29, at noon. The theme will be “Walking with a Purpose.” There will be Holy Communion at the service.

Easter services will be held on Sunday, March 31 at 8:30 and 10 a.m. and will feature worship with traditional and contemporary music selections as well as special solo and ensemble performances. Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion


Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, 5381 Old Lake Shore Road, will hold services on Easter Sunday, March 31. There will be a Holy Communion and prayer service at 8 a.m. and a Holy Communion and prayer service with music at 10 a.m.

Angola

Most Precious Blood Church


Most Precious Blood Church, located at 22 Prospect St., will observe Holy Thursday, March 28, with a Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m.

On Good Friday, March 29, there will be the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 3 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 30, the Blessing of the Food Baskets will be held at 2 p.m. An Easter Vigil Mass will be held at 8:30 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, March 31, Mass will be held at 8 and 10:30 a.m.

First Congregational United Church of Christ


First Congregational UCC, 132 North Main St., will have its Maundy Thursday service on March 28 at 7 p.m. A Good Friday community service will be held on March 29 from noon to 3 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, services are scheduled for March 31 at 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. An Easter breakfast will be held at 8:15 a.m.

Blasdell


First Evangelical Lutheran


First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 66 Arthur Ave. in Blasdell, will hold its Easter services starting on Maundy Thursday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. There will be a service of Holy Communion. The service will conclude with the stripping of the altar.

On Good Friday, March 29, the Blasdell Ecumenical service will be held at First Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. There will be a Tenebrae Service at 7:30 p.m.

The Easter celebration begins with a Sunrise service on March 31 at 6:30 a.m. The Festival Easter service is at 10 a.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated at both services on Easter. Nursery care will be provided for the 10 a.m. service.

Woodlawn Church of Christ


Woodlawn Church of Christ, 3691 4th St. in Blasdell, will hold an Easter service on Sunday,March 31 at 10:30 a.m.

North Collins


North Collins Wesleyan Church

The North Collins Wesleyan Church, 10470 Bantle Road in North Collins, will hold Easter Sunday services on March 31 at 9 and 11 a.m.

Sacred Heart of Mary

Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 1993 Brant Road in North Collins, will have a Holy Thursday service on March 28 at 9 a.m., a Good Friday service on March 29 at 2 p.m., and will Mark Easter on Saturday, March 30 with a Festival Holy Eucharist Mass at 9 a.m.

The Rev. Roland Cooper and Father Isaac Ihiasoto will be the celebrants and bring the Easter message.

The service will include a festival procession and the singing of Easter hymns. All are welcome.

First Congregational Church

The First Congregational Church, 10385 Main St. in North Collins, will hold a Maundy Thursday Vigil and Communion service on March 28 at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, March 29, a Good Friday service will be held at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments to follow.

Easter Sunday services will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Praise and Prayer service followed by a traditional Easter breakfast buffet starting around 10 a.m. on March 31. A Family Worship service starts at 10:45 a.m.

Gowanda

Gowanda Free Methodist Church

Gowanda Free Methodist Church, on the corner of Route 39 and Stafford Road, will hold an Easter Sunday Sunrise Service on March 31 at 6:30 a.m.; a Contemporary Worship Service at 8:30 a.m. and a Traditional Worship Service at 11 a.m.
