Palm Sunday service in Boston

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at 7630 Boston State Road, North Boston, will be holding a Palm Sunday Worship Service on Sunday, March 24 at 9:30 a.m.

On Good Friday, March 29, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be meeting with Faith United Church of Christ, located at 8651 Boston State Road at 5:30 p.m. for a soup and bread supper and to assemble personal hygiene kits for those in need. Distribution for the kits will be through Lutheran World Relief.

A joint Good Friday worship service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

N. Evans Fire Co. fish fry on March 29

The North Evans Vol. Fire Co., located at 6988 Versailles Plank Road will be hosting a Fish Fry on Friday March 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. Fish (battered or broiled) or fried shrimp will be served with french fries and includes our endless salad bar containing potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, and chef salad. Kids portions also available. Cash bar will be available for beer, wine and pop. Take-out orders can be called in at 627-3410.

Palm Sunday pancake breakfast

The Brant Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is holding an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and theme basket raffle on Palm Sunday, March 24 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Brant Fire Hall.

A variety of theme baskets will be available, along with a door prize and 50/50 drawing.

The breakfast menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, Danish, coffee and juice. The cost is $6.50 per person, with children 10 and under free.

Boies-Lord fundraiser April 20

A fundraiser for the Boies-Lord Home Museum will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hamburg Methodist Church. The fundraiser is sponsored by the Hamburg Antiques Study Group and open to the public.

The fundraiser will begin with guest speaker Denise Reichard of Getzville, who portray and talk about the life of Eleanor Roosevelt. Reichard speaks in the first person about the lives of great women in history. Following the speaker will be a Victorian tea including scones, small sandwiches and desserts. There will also be antique appraisals, door prizes and an antiques raffle.

The Boies-Lord Home is a pre-Civil War era Greek revival home that was moved from Main Street and restored and furnished as it would have been in 1850.

Hamburg class of ‘83 30-year reunion

Hamburg’s class of 1983 is planning their 30-year class reunion for the weekend of July 26 and 27.

Taxpayers Assoc. meets March 26

The Scranton-McKinley Taxpayers Association will meet on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the rear hall of the Scranton Fire Station on Scranton Road. The public is welcome.

Angola Easter egg hunt March 30

An Easter egg hunt will be held in the Village of Angola on Saturday, March 30 at 5 p.m. at Main and Center streets, across from the Post Office.

11th annual Fur Ball March 24

Ten Lives Club’s 11th annual Fur Ball will be held on Sunday, March 24 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 36 Pierce Avenue in Hamburg.

Highlights of this year’s event include live, casual music, homemade food and a cash bar. Over 100 theme baskets will be auctioned off. There will also be silent auctions. Many vendors, crafts, 50/50 drawings and cats ready to adopt will be featured. Admission is free and children are welcome.

Boston Easter egg hunt March 30

The Boston Easter Egg Hunt kicks off its 52nd year on Saturday, March 30th at the Boston Town Park. The Annual Hunt begins at 1 p.m. Children ages 12 years and younger are welcome to participate. Like last year, allergy-free candy will be available.

Prizes will be awarded in three age groups. A Coloring Contest will also be held. Blank entries will be distributed locally to school, daycares, and churches. Call if you would like one. The finished entries are to be brought to the event and judging will take place there. Prizes will be awarded for 0-4 years, 5-8 years and 9-12-years-old. Please bring cameras for pictures with the Easter Bunny. Sponsored by the Boston Democratic Social Club.

Palm Sunday message March 24

Michelle George Yates will speak about the major themes of the human condition in her sermon “Waving the Palm” on Sunday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets.

Yates is a Chaplain Resident at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

She will be available for conversation during the potluck luncheon following the services. Religious education and child care are provided.

Car seat safety check March 23 in Boston

The Boston Emergency Squad is hosting a child car seat safety check from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at their hall at 8500 Boston State Road.

This safety check is open to anyone.

Emerson Home Bureau meeting

The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Iris housing complex located at 4150 Sowles Road in Hamburg to share a craft.

Troop 509 chicken barbecue March 21

Boy Scouts Pack and Troop 509 are holding a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue on Thursday, March 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. (or until sold out) at the Hamburg United Methodist Church, located at 116 Union St.

Dinners are $8 and take-out only.
