Barbecue dinner in Angola May 11

First Congregational UCC, 132 N. Main St., Angola, is holding a chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 11 from noon until the food is sold out.

The meal includes barbecue chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, a roll and dessert.

The cost is $9. Eat-in or take-out is available. The church is handicap accessible.

Catholic Daughters meeting May 16

The Catholic Daughters Court 1311 of Our Mother of Good Counsel, Blasdell, will meet in the school hall on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m.

A report on the annual Communion Breakfast will be read and highlights of the recent biennial state convention will be presented by those who represented the court.

Faith UCC Sunday school available

Faith United Church of Christ Sunday school has classes available for ages 3 and older. Sunday school classes are divided by age level with classes for Pre-K through Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and for adults. Classes start at 9 a.m.

Boston Historical Society opens May 12

The Boston Historical Society, 9410 Boston State Road, will be opening for the season on Mother’s Day, May 12, from 2 to 4 p.m.

They will continue to be open on the second and fourth Sunday of the month through October.

Grief-share meetings at Faith UCC

Weekly grief-share meetings are held at Faith United Church of Christ on Sunday afternoons. Children’s programs at Eden Library

The Eden Library is looking for children in grades five to eight to become part of their “Battle of the Books” team.

An informational meeting for students with a parent will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. to introduce this year’s books for this annual reading and trivia competition.

A program on “Pop-Up Art” will be offered at the library on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m. Presented by Explore and More Children’s Museum, this program will teach children ages 6 to 12 how to incorporate pop-up elements into cards and books. Advance registration is required for this activity as space is limited. Please call the library to register.

Eden Garden Club meets May 14

The Eden Garden Club meets on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at Eden high School.

Maryann Jumper will present “This Glorious Earth.” The club will also be exchanging plants.

Eden C of C breakfast meeting May 14

The Eden Chamber of Commerce is holding a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30 a.m. at the Four Corners Cafe in Eden.

Andrew Carlsonfrom AXA Advisors will present “Getting a grip on your life insurance.” He will discuss recent changes in the industry and why it makes sense to have a no-cost review performed.

Barbecue chicken & family fun day May 11

Eden Cooperative Nursery School will be hosting its 8th Annual Barbecue and Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barbecue dinners will be provided by Weidner’s BBQ and featured activities include a basket raffle, lottery tree, face painting, balloon animals, stuffed animal veterinary clinic, family dance music, trucks to touch and a rummage sale.

Tickets are $10 per person at the door. Tickets may also be purchase pre-sale at the same cost by contacting the school at 992-3344.


12th Spring Dairy Preview on May 10-11

The 12th Annual Spring Dairy Preview will be held on May 10 and 11 in the Showplex building.

The show will be judged by Shaun Merrill from Geneva and there will be over $2,500 to win in awards and premiums.

The show is designed specifically for dairy cattle exhibitors, giving them a chance to bring their animals out in a “pre-season” show to see how they compare against competition.

All animals must be registered with a breed association (i.e. The Holstein Association) to show. Check with breed associations for more information about registering animals. Entries will also be accepted until Friday, May 10 at noon.

Animals must be in place by noon on Friday, May 10. Youth Team Fitting will begin at 4 p.m., with Junior Showmanship at 7 p.m. being judged by Zack Welker of Batavia. On Saturday, May 11, the Breed Show will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Cloverbank Home Bureau towel bingo

The Cloverbank Home Bureau presents its inaugural towel bingo and theme basket event on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the Cloverbank Elementary School, 2761 Cloverbank Road, Hamburg.

Hamburg Horizons benefit May 10

Hamburg Horizons Educational Adventures is holding its inaugural benefit to support programs and scholarships on Friday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Charlotte Avenue School cafeteria.

Admission is $20 per family and $7 for individuals, and includes a make your own sundae, five raffle tickets and arts and crafts projects for kids.

Reading dog returns to Hamburg library

The Hamburg Public Library invites children to stop in to visit Ginger, the “Tail Waggin’ Tutor,” a reading therapy dog trained through Therapy Dogs International to be a non-judgmental listener and a great encouragement to struggling readers. She will be coming back to the Hamburg Library on Saturday, May 11 and May 25 at 10 a.m.

Hamburg Central PTSA is hosting a candidates’ forum at Charlotte Ave nue Elementary School on Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m. The League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara will be moderating the event.

Frontier PTSA meeting May 13

The Frontier Parent Teacher Student Association will meet in the high school cafeteria on Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m.

This will be the last meeting for the 2012-13 school year. All members and interested visitors are welcome to attend.

Hamburg Nursery barbecue May 14

The Hamburg Nursery School is sponsoring a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue on Tuesday, May 14 at 3 p.m. at the Hamburg Presbyterian Church, 177 Main St.

Side salads will be provided by Water Valley restaurant. A homemade bake sale, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and Lockwood’s hanging flower baskets will also be available.

The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in the Hamburg Middle School cafeteria. The craft projects will be a heart flag and a patriotic apple.

Antiques group meets May 10

The Hamburg Antiques Study Group will meet Friday, May 10 at the Hamburg Community Center, 107 Prospect Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

Flow Blue China is the topic for this month, with members Ellen Richardson and John Richardson Jr. presenting. Members are reminded that dues ($15) will be collected at the meeting.

Krolick’s chicken barbecue on May 11

A Krolick’s barbecue chicken dinner is being held on Saturday, May 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Southtowns Fitness Center, 23 Lake St., Hamburg, to benefut the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure and the Southtowns Fitness Center bike team.

Dinners include chicken, potato salad, macaroni salad and a roll with butter.

Tickets are $9 pre-sale, $10 the day of the event. Tickets can be pruchased from any Tour de Cure bike team member at Southtowns Fitness Center.

Mother’s Day event at UUCh May 12

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. with poetry, music and prose.

Service leader Gin Mackey and church members will share memories of their mothers or other significant women in their lives. Music Director Nan Harris Cobb will provide music.

A Mother’s Day coffee hour will follow the service. Religious education and child care are provided. The church is located on the corner of Union and Center streets. The public is welcome.

Village Camp Out being held May 11-12

The Gear for Adventure Village Camp Out is being held on Saturday. May 11 at 2 p.m. until Sunday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. in Memorial Park.

The cost is $10 per tent, with all proceeds going to charity. Pre-registration is required to camp.

Food will be available, as well as product demos and raffles. There will also be a Hootenanny. No alcohol will be permitted.

STANYS awards dinner May 21

The Science Teachers Association of New York State’s annual awards dinner will be held on Tuesday, May 21. The event will start with a cash bar at 6 p.m., student awards at 6:45 p.m. and dinner at 7:15 p.m. The dinner will be held at the Alumni Lounge in the Wick Center at Daemen College. The cost is $25 per person.

Hamburg House and Garden Club event

The Hamburg House and Garden Club will be conducting a spring cleanup and planting at Centennial Gardens, the library and Memorial Park in the Village of Hamburg on Tuesday, May 22 at 4 p.m. Pizza and a business meeting will follow.

The speaker for the evening is Marcia Becker. Horticulture specimens for judging will be the topic.

Round and Square Dance May 11

A Round and Square Dance is being held on Saturday, May 11 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Hall located at 10893 Sisson Highway in Langford.

Music will be provided by Pure Country with Paul Zittel. Pizza, beer, pop and snacks will also be available.

Admission is $25 for families, $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 10-15.

Magic Mission Yard Sale May 17-19

Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 10893 Sisson Highway, Langford, is holding a yard sale on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, a plant sale and a country store and bake sale. Lunch will also be served throughout the day.
