Hamburg class of ‘73 ‘save the date’
Hamburg’s class of 1973 is planning their class reunion for the weekend of Aug. 9 and 10.

Lynne Dixon to hold office hours April 16
Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon will hold office hours at the Hamburg Library, located at 102 Buffalo St., on Wenesday, April 17 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Information pertaining to senior services, social services, veteran affairs, the county clerk’s office and other county departments will be available.
Lake Shore Library event April 13
On Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m., the Lake Shore Library, 4857 Lake Shore Road, will be celebrating over 110 years of Peter Rabbit and author Beatrix Potter.
Ages 5-10 are welcome to hear stories by Potter, play games and dress like rabbits. Registration is required. Call 627-3017 for more information.
First Lutheran spaghetti dinner
First Lutheran Church, located at 66 Arthur Avenue in Blasdell, is holding a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, April 21 from noon to 6 p.m.
Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 10. Children under 5 are free.
Dinner includes salad, dessert and a beverage. There will also be a basket raffle.

Antiques study group meets April 12
The Hamburg Antiques Study Group will meet on Friday, April 12 at the Hamburg Community Center, located at 107 Prospect Avenue at 7:30 p.m.
This month’s meeting features the topic of “Victorian Mourning Items” with Maureen Beechler from Lancaster presenting. Victorians showed their bereavement through art, jewelry, clothing and photography. There were elaborate etiquette rules involved during this period.

Library Week at Eden Library
Help celebrate the importance of libraries by attending a special program at the Eden Public Library during National Library Week.
Lorna MacDonald Czarnota will be giving a talk on Monday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. Well-known as a storyteller, Czarnota will discuss her three books: “Wicked Niagara,” “Legends, Lore and Secrets of Western New York” and also “Medieval Tales that Kids Can Read and Tell.”
Tuesday, April 16 is “National Library Workers’ Day” and everyone is invited to stop in between 1 and 4 p.m. for coffee and treats with the staff.
A recent Academy Award winning film will be shown on Wednesday, April 17 starting at 3 p.m. Licensing restrictions prevent advertising the title, but you can call the library to find out what the movie is.
The Eden Public Library’s annual Used Book Sale also starts on Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. and continues through Saturday during normal library open hours.
On Thursday, April 18 at 6:30 children between the ages of 6 and 10 are invited to find out if they have what it takes to be a “Superhero.” They’ll be able to test their knowledge of superheroes and try their own “super” skills.

Soil testing in Hamburg April 20
Local residents will have the opportunity to have their soil tested by master gardeners from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County at the Hamburg Public Library, 102 Buffalo St., from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 20.
A small donation per sample is requested to to help defray expenses.

Frontier five hour course April 24
Frontier Central Community Education will be offering a five hour driving class on Wednesday, April 24 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The class will be held at the Community Learning Center, 4540 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg.
Registration is necessary and participants must have a valid New York State Learner’s Permit. The cost is $30.

Zonta Club offering scholarships
The Zonta Club of Hamburg-Orchard Park is offering $500 scholarships to local high school seniors pursuing college degrees. Girls from Hamburg, Orchard Park, Frontier, Immaculata Academy, and Mt. Mercy Academy are eligible.
Two $1000 awards are offered for women, ages 25 years and older, who desire to pursue or complete their education.
Applications are available at the local high schools and colleges, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline for applications is April 27.
Emerson Home Bureau meets April 16
The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Hamburg Middle School, room 114. The craft project will be attack cat on duty. New members are welcome.
Eden UMC chicken barbecue April 14
Eden United Methodist Church, located at 2820 E. Church St., is holding a Wendell’s chicken barbecue dinner on Sunday, April 14 at noon.
The cost of the dinner is $9 and it is take-out only. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit church activities.
Dinners include a half chicken, macaroni salad, cole slaw, bread and dessert.

Round and Square Dance April 20
A Round and Square Dance is being held on Saturday, April 20 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Hall located at 10893 Sisson Highway in Langford.
Music will be provided by Pure Country with Paul Zittel. Pizza, beer, pop and snacks will also be available.
Admission is $25 for families, $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 10-15.

Jesus topic at UUCH April 14
The Rev. Donald J. Reidell will speak about the mystery of Jesus in his sermon “Jesus and Christianity” on Sunday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets.
He will be available for conversation during the coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are provided. All are welcome.
Frontier PTSA meeting April 17
The Frontier Parent Teacher Student Association will meet in the high school cafeteria on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
Superintendent James Bodziak will be the guest speaker. All members and interested visitors are welcome to attend.
