Hamburg World Day of Prayer March 1
Women, men and children in more than 170 countries and regions will celebrate World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 1. Hamburg will celebrate the World Day of Prayer at All Saints Lutheran Church, located at 6065 South Park Ave.
The women of France, this year’s writer-country, have chosen the theme “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
The annual offering supports the work of World Day of Prayer USA and helps meet the needs of families in France and around the world who are victims of many forms of poverty, violence, discrimination and other injustice.
World Day of Prayer service March 1
The Boston Community World Day of Prayer service will be held on Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ, located at 8651 Boston State Road. The theme will be “I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me,” written by the women of France.
All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served following the service.
All Saints ‘Souper Suppers’ March 6
All Saints Lutheran Church, located at 6065 South Park Ave. in Hamburg, will have a Lenten service on Wednesday, March 6 featuring “Souper Suppers” at 6:30 p.m. and the Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. The Lenten theme for this service is “Facing Our Worldliness,” from Matthew 6:19-21. Pastor David Menz will be preaching. All are welcome.
Troop 400 spaghetti dinner on March 3
Boy Scout Troop 400 will be hosting its 22nd annual spaghetti dinner and theme basket auction on Sunday, March 3, from noon to 6 p.m. at the SS. Peter and Paul Parish Center, located at 66 E. Main St.
Tickets for the dinner are available at the door and are priced as follows: adults: $7, children 5-10: $3 and under 5 free.
Women’s Friendship Club meets March 4
The Southtowns Women’s Friendship Club will meet on Monday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room in the McKinley Mall (next to Macy’s). Club member Mary Potter will be speaking, and she will teach origami, the Japanese art of paper folding into birds, flowers and other shapes.

UUCH presents speaker on March 3
The Imam Nazim Mangera will speak about how Muslims practice their faith in the United States on Sunday, March 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hamburg, located on the corner of Union and Center streets. The Imam is the spiritual leader of Mosque Noor in Amherst, is an Islamic scholar and just published a book titled the “100 Inspirational Sayings of Prophet Muhammed.” The Imam will be available for conversation during the coffee hour following the service. Religious education and child care are provided. All are welcome.
Eagle Carnival on March 2
North Collins Jr.-Sr. High School will be hosting its annual Eagle Carnival and Chinese auction on Saturday, March 2.
The proceeds from this event go directly to the students and are evenly divided among grades seven through 12 for class activities and eventually, graduation expenses.

St. Francis fish fry March 1
St. Francis of Assisi will be holding a fish fry on Friday, March 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner includes haddock, macaroni salad, coleslaw, french fries, bread and a drink. The cost is $10 for a fish dinner, $2 for a pizza dinner. For more information, call 627-3357.
Lake Shore Library book sale
The Lake Shore Library Book Sale will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, March 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come early for the best selections. All proceeds will benefit the Lake Shore Library, located at 4857 Lake Shore Road.
Women’s Bible study on March 5
Grace Lutheran LCMC, located on McKinley Parkway and Newton Road, is hosting a women’s ecumenical Bible study Tuesday mornings beginning March 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Child care provided upon request. Country Western Dance on March 2
The Hamburg Council Knights of Columbus will host a Country Western Dance on Saturday, March 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. The admission charge is $7 per person or a cap of $20 for a family, which entitles you to table snacks, door prizes and a great evening of entertainment provided by Paul Zittel and his Pure Country Band. Benefit for Joan Lewis March 2
On Saturday, March 2, a benefit will be held for Joan (Tighe) Lewis and the Lewis family at the Iron Worker’s Hall, 196 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca from 4 to 9 p.m.
Lewis is a graduate of West Seneca West High School, Buffalo State and Canisius College. She currently is an officer at M & T Bank. She was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in April 2012. MDS is a rare, aggressive disease affecting the bone marrow and blood. In December, she underwent a bone marrow transplant at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in hopes of beginning long-term remission. She is currently going through an extensive in-home recovery period. She is married to John Lewis, and has two daughters, Alison and Lauren.
A $20 donation includes food, beer, wine, pop and music. There will be a Chinese auction, silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from Jim and Cindy Tighe at 627-5822. Monetary donations will be accepted at any M&T Bank branch under “Joan’s Journey” or can be mailed to “Joan’s Journey,” 5984 Pinehurst Court, Lakeview, N.Y. 14085.
Emerson Home Bureau meeting
The Emerson Home Bureau will meet on Tuesday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hamburg Middle School cafeteria for the annual AFS Dinner.
Lake View Home Bureau March 6
The Lake View Home Home Bureau will hold its monthly business meeting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6 in the hall at Fire Station No. 1 on Lakeview Road. Crafts for the month will be presented and organizational ideas will be discussed. The meeting will be followed by a “bring a sandwich” luncheon. Chips, pickles and dessert will be provided. All are welcome.
Quota chicken BBQ being held March 9
Quota International of Hamburg is hosting a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue to benefit Quota’s service and scholarship fund.
The event will take place on Saturday, March 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hamburg Community Center, located at 107 Prospect Ave.
Dinners are $8.50 and are take-out only.
Hamburg middle fitness fair March 6
Hamburg Middle School will hold a Family Food and Fitness Fair (F4) on Wednesday, March 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Healthy food tastings, fitness classes, exhibits by local businesses and demonstrations by students will be featured. Admission is free.
This event is being sponsored by the school’s Health & Wellness Committee.
CDA spaghetti dinner on March 3
On Sunday, March 3, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 1311 of our Mother of Good Counsel will sponsor their annual spaghetti dinner and theme basket raffle in Our Mother of Good Counsel’s School Hall on Lake Avenue. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and dinners will be served until 4 p.m. The basket raffle will be held at 4 p.m. Winners do not need to be present. The price is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 are free. For tickets and information, call Karen at 983-6772.
Sabres alumni b-ball game March 14
A basketball game featuring Buffalo Sabres alumni vs. Hamburg school’s staff is set for Thursday, March 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Dr. This game is being hosted by the Hamburg Schools soft ball program.
Tickets are $7 at the door or $5 pre-sale. Pre-sale tickets are available from 3 to 4 p.m. weekdays in the high school front foyer.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available to businesses. A $25 sponsorship buys an advertisement in the program and gym during the event, and two tickets with preferential seating.
