A former resident of Hamburg supports fitness center decision

Editor, The Sun:
I recently moved from the Town of Hamburg but still read The Sun with great interest.
I am proud of Hamburg Town Councilwoman Amy Ziegler, Hamburg Town Councilman Kevin Smardz and Hamburg Town Supervisor Steven Walters in making a very tough decision to make the cuts in the town budget that need to be made.
As the editor of The Sun, Dan Meyer has been a supporter of the entrenched Town of Hamburg Democratic Party for so long that he fails to see that the voters replaced them for a reason.
They were first elected into office to represent ALL of the people of the town, not just a few Democratic committeemen's families with patronage jobs.
I am sure that the new Hamburg Town Board will find a better use for the building at Hamburg Town Beach. Maintenance of the building, liability insurance and the wages of employees all add up to a lot more than what is gained in membership fees of 300 people.
I encourage the new board to use their accomplished skills to come to a decision regarding use of the building that helps everyone in the town, not just a few.
I submit that the silent majority of voters in the Town of Hamburg will agree.
I also anticipate that any future difficulties between Town of Hamburg Highway Superintendent Thomas Best Sr. and select town employees will be repaired as this exploration process continues and the new board members polish their communication skills.

Town of Boston endures change

Editor, The Sun:
Promise made, promise kept.
The three nascent Republican members of the Boston Town Board approved a 20 percent pay cut in their annual salaries at their first meeting in 2010. This historic vote was met with one member of the board abstaining.
At the second meeting in 2010, the three nascent Republican board members voted to appoint a new recreation director with one board member abstaining.
Councilwoman Cathy Maghran has apparently decided that voting on the tough and common sense issues in the town have become an onerous task. Her actions at the last two meetings have been nothing short of egregious.
To abstain from a vote, you must show a conflict of interest. Maghran failed to do so in both instances.
I find it laughable that someone elected by the people would represent them in such a way.

Keep sidewalks, roadways clear

Editor, The Sun:
I live in the Town of Hamburg and work part-time in the Village of Hamburg and so I ask publicly that we see some sense of order when it comes to removing snow and ice from the sidewalks and streets of our community.
If you own property you are responsible to keep your sidewalks clear. This includes the practice of not throwing snow from the sidewalk into the street.
