Resident believes village streets need new plan

Editor, The Sun

The Village of Hamburg needs a new approach to maintaining its streets and sidewalks. It is not my intention to cause embarrassment or to point the finger of blame at any individual or group. However, recent improvements in the village’s business district highlight the contrast with the residential streetscape. The condition of many village streets and sidewalks is dangerous for walkers, runners and bikers, causes damage to vehicles, and undermines homeowners’ efforts to present their homes and neighborhoods in the best possible light.

The current street-reconstruction cycle and the short-term plans for upgrades do not change the mid- and long-term prospects for the village. Failing to deal with the issue now will mean that the roads and sidewalks will continue to deteriorate, detracting from the wonderful efforts of government, businesses, and homeowners to create an attractive village which enhances quality of life and strengthens property values.

The obstacles (e.g., weather conditions, property-tax cap) are considerable, but we need our village leadership to address this problem creatively and with a sense of urgency.

The longer we wait, the greater the damage, the more costly the reconstruction. Thanks for listening.

Gratitude expressed for Burgerfest success

Editor, The Sun

Wow, what a great Burgerfest. It is always a delight to see the community coming together to share the burgers… and the festival. But it goes well beyond that. It is an opportunity for families and friends to share laughs, games, music, and delicious food in the summer sun.

Lind-Hart Mini Ship would like to express our gratitude to the generous businesses offering their time and donations to help make the Teen Zone a success.

Comfort Zone, Coyote Café, Dairy Queen, Hess Brothers Florist, Fisher Pools, Great Harvest Bread, Key Bank, Main Street Ice Cream, Monroe’s Place, Now Pizzeria, O’Briens Smokehouse, Parkside Candy, Pizza Hut, Ray Crinzi Jewelry, Textures Salon & Spa, we could not have made it happen without you!

We would also like to extend a big thank you to all of the volunteers and everyone involved in making the 2012 Burger Fest a hit.

P.S. Can we please make that bed race a little shorter? Some of us couldn’t get out of our beds the following day.

‘Blast on the Beach’ was thoroughly enjoyable

Editor, The Sun

Thank you to the volunteer committee that gave us the July 28th Blast on the Beach at the Hamburg Town Park. It was an awesome event attended and enjoyed by many people of all ages.

My family and I have attended the Blast on the Beach at the Hamburg Town Park for a few years and always found it to be a special part of mid summer.

The fireworks were the outstanding best that I have ever seen in Hamburg including the ones at Woodlawn State Park. I can’t imagine how they could have been better. People were cheering and clapping.

I appreciate the efforts of the volunteers who dedicated many hours to organizing, planning and working the Blast on the Beach. We are fortunate in Hamburg to have these volunteers and to be able to enjoy this mid summer happening. Thanks to the Blast on the Beach Committee. My family and I look forward to July 2013 Blast on the Beach.
