‘Warm the Children’ volunteers are thanked
Editor, The Sun
The Warm the Children Committee of the Rotary Club of Hamburg wishes to thank all of our donors and volunteers for a successful and rewarding campaign. Because of your generosity and compassion this year, we were able to assist 320 youngsters from 130 families that reside in the Town and Village of Hamburg, Blasdell, Angola , Derby , Evans, Brant, Lake View , North Collins, Eden and Boston . All were referred by church, school or social service agencies.
Warm the Children has just concluded its 17th year in partnership with The Sun to provide warm, brand new winter clothing to children in need. Since 2007, the Warm the Children program has been sponsored and coordinated by the Rotary Club of Hamburg, which collects and distributes donated funds to buy clothing for families who’ve been referred by local schools, churches and social agencies. Each child accepted into the program receives brand new clothing which parents select with the help of volunteer shoppers who accompany them to Target. Children age birth to 3 years receive $40 worth of new clothing, while those age 4 to 18 receive $80 worth.
Partnering with the Rotary Club for Warm the Children and The Sun, which donates free advertising used to solicit and acknowledge contributions, is Evans Bank, serving as the program’s fiscal partner.

The Town of Hamburg and the Girl Scouts of Western New York would like to thank everyone who donated Christmas items to the 1st annual Southtown Festival of Trees, which was held at Woodlawn Beach State Park Dec. 8 and 9.
The event was a huge success, and we were able to assist 22 families to have a special Christmas.
Because this event was so successful, we have decided to continue it this year. We are again looking for Christmas items, which will be accepted throughout the year, and can be dropped off at the Town Supervisor’s office at Town Hall. We are confident we will be even more successful this year.
Thank you again for all your donations, and all who assisted with this event. This truly is the Town that Friendship Built.
