Residents named vice chairs of 2014 Catholic Charities Appeal

Jake and Katie Schneider
LAKE VIEW — The Most Rev. Richard Malone, bishop of Buffalo, and Sister Mary McCarrick OSF, diocesan director of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, have announced that Lake View residents Jake and Katie Schneider will serve as vice chairs of the 2014 Catholic Charities Appeal.

The 90th annual campaign extends through June 30, the end of the fiscal year, and has a stated goal of raising $10.8 million to help fund Catholic Charities’ 70 programs across 61 sites in Western New York.

The services that will benefit from the appeal include education and employment assistance, behavioral health services, food pantries, relief services and immigration and refugee assistance.

This year’s appeal week will be held April 6 – 13. The theme is “Heart at work.”

“We are again blessed to have such talented, dedicated individuals volunteer their time to serve on our leadership team to help us reach our goal and fund the services and programs that are so vitally important to the entire Western New York community,” McCarrick said.

“We’ve been able to meet our goal in recent years, despite continued economic challenges faced by our region. This generosity among the people in Western New York allows us to continue to serve nearly 138,000 people, each year.”

The Schneiders are parishioners at Blessed John Paul II Parish in Lake View.

Jake Schneider, an architect and developer, owns Schneider Design Architects PC and Schneider Development LLC. He graduated from Saint Francis High School and the University of Notre Dame. He serves on the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo Board and has served as chair of the St. Francis High School Board of Directors.

Katie Schneider, a photographer, owns Katie Schneider Photography in Buffalo. She is a graduate of Nottingham Academy and Wells College.

She served on Parish Council at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, prior to the establishment of Blessed John Paul the II Parish in Lake View.

Both of the Schneiders serve on the bishops’ council of the laity as program committee chairs. They have four children and two grandchildren.

This year’s chairs are Michael and Maureen Pratt of Williamsville.

Katie and Jake
I knew Jake when we were fellow students at St. Mary's of the Lake. I am not surprised to see him and his wife Katie as chairs of such a good cause!
