The Sun letter to the editor: Thank you to honest restaurant owners

The Water Valley Inn is an establishment well known for its hometown ambiance, good food and great service. What may be less well known is that every meal is served with a cup of honesty.

I recently lost my wallet. The ensuing panic, anxiety and confusion left me understandably distraught. Where could it possibly be?

At 9 p.m. on a holiday, I received a phone call from Debbie, one of the owners of the Water Valley Inn. She reported that her husband had found my wallet, when cleaning the restaurant over the weekend. Debbie took the initiative to contact me, secure the wallet in her safe and make arrangements for me to pick it up the next day.

One can only imagine the great relief I felt, after her call.

My gratitude for the kindness Debbie extended to me is enormous. Upon our meeting the next day, she refused any recompense, citing only that it was the right thing to do. She thanked me for being a good customer and hugged me in farewell.

I encourage readers who are eager for a good meal and one served with a batch of integrity to dine at the Water Valley Inn. Their recipe for success lies not only in the kitchen, but in the characters of the owners.
