Letter to the Editor: Blasdell: the forgotten village in Hamburg

I am writing in response to the many letters praising our elected officials and all that they do for Hamburg residents.

John McKendry writes, in the Oct. 10, 2013 letters to the editor, encouraging votes for Larry Speiser and Amy Ziegler, since “they initiated a committee of concerned town residents to fight the incessant train noise that accompany 160 trains per week through the area of Rogers, Cloverbank, Pleasant and Lakeview roads.”

I am the current deputy mayor of Blasdell, writing as a town resident. Our village is located along the same track system and we “enjoy” the same number of trains that produce the noise at these other crossings, yet our village has never been approached by either Mr. Speiser or Ms. Ziegler or any other official, about creating a quiet zone in Blasdell.

In fact, candidates who have been campaigning lately in our village have been referring to issues that most affect the town and village of Hamburg, with very little regard to what is good for Blasdell.

I am amazed to see campaign signs sprouting up in Blasdell, asking for votes from people who only pay attention to this part of Hamburg, during elections.

Our village is struggling, and perhaps not as sexy as the other village, but we are certainly a part of Hamburg (I have the tax bills to back up this claim) and deserve to be included in the improvements benefitting the rest of the town. As I have said from day one: What about Blasdell?
