Historical home needs fundraising help

Editor:

I am writing on behalf of the volunteers at the Boies -Lord Home Museum, 5853 South Park Avenue across from the fairgrounds.

The museum is run and maintained by the Hamburg Antiques Study Group. We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt group. This means donations can be tax-deductible.

In June of 2013, we paid to have a new roof put on the house. Now we need the house painted. It hasnít been completely painted in a long time. Since this is a house built between 1840Ė1860 with wooden clapboards, it will cost a sizable amount. Our treasury is very low, at this point. We need donations of cash or items that could be sold on eBay. We used to have an annual antiques show. After 58 years, that is no longer a viable fundraising option for us. In the past year, our fundraisers have been a Mike Randall performance, a Victorian tea, a flea market scheduled for June 7 and we are planning a spaghetti dinner for Oct. 2. Our members work very hard fundraising.

The house was moved in 1979 to its present location. It was restored to how it would have looked in 1850. It is also furnished with items pre-dating 1860. The move, the restoration and furnishing all had to be paid for mostly by the groupís fundraising and much volunteer work.

If you would be willing to donate to our maintenance fund, the group would truly appreciate it. Send a check payable to Hamburg Antiques Study Group to 39 Therin Drive, Hamburg, NY 14075. Please include your name and address with the donation. Our group also is looking for new members. For more information, please call 649-9232.
