The Sun letter to the editor: It’s already time to start thinking about the WNY Dairy/Ag Festival!

Editor:
It seems like only yesterday we started planning our first Western New York Dairy/Agricultural Festival back in 1989, taking place in Springville at Tops Market Plaza parking lot.

The first stage was the Tops Market loading dock.

Pushing the clock forward, we are now planning our 26th year, to be held in downtown Springville on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 6, 7 and 8th.

New events are starting to take form, including a WNY-area farm events trade show. We are looking for your exciting farm-related event or festival, to join us with a float in the parade and a free booth on our grounds, promoting your farm-related 2014 event.

We just started and have already signed up the Erie County Fair, who is celebrating its 175th anniversary, plus Cornell Cooperative Extension Service and Seneca Nations Fall Festival.

The Boys & Girls Club is also getting more involved with great kids events, plus the downtown Main Street stores window-painting competition will again take place, with all Springville schools participating.

Terry Buckwald, “Elvis,” is also returning, by public demand. We’re even discussing maybe two nights of fireworks, to be decided.

Our theme, “thank you farmers,” is focusing on educating the public about our food and farm priorities.

Mark your calendars and check out our website, www.wnydairyagfest.com, at the end of January when most contracts (parade, sponsorships, chamber trade show, crafts, food and farm events trade show) will be updated and online for your participation sign-ups.

Happy New Year, everyone!

WNY Dairy/Agricultural Festival chairman
