Letter to the Editor: A special thanks from the Frontier District to the Hamburg District

Editor:

On Thursday evening, Nov. 7, 2013, the Frontier Central High School students performed a wonderful fall concert to a packed house in the Hamburg Central High School auditorium, to the delight of all who attended. Kudos to the Frontier students and teachers!

On behalf of the Frontier Central School District Board of Education, administration, music department staff and students, I would personally like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hamburg Central School District, the board of education and the Hamburg music department, for graciously accommodating and hosting our concert.

The evening featured selections by the Festival Chorus, the wind ensemble, the Symphonic Orchestra and a special performance by guest oboist, Jennifer Christen, the principle oboist of the Indianapolis Symphony. Jennifer, who is also a 2005 Frontier graduate, is a home-grown example of an inspiring success that brought the audience to their feet, on several occasions.

Due to an unforeseen capital project delay on the Frontier High School’s auditorium, we found ourselves all prepared for a concert, but with no venue large enough for this performance. The Hamburg High School Music Department, the Hamburg staff and, in particular, Larry Dubill, extended their help and the use of their wonderful facility.

Mr. Dubill did a great job in coordinating all the details for the performances and also, in the role of master of ceremonies for the program, introducing each portion of the concert with style. Larry, who also did more than his share of heavy lifting in setting up, reminded us that music is the universal language and that he is truly dedicated to the success of all students.

As Maya Angelou said, “People may forget what you said, people may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

Putting aside “Falcon-Bulldog rivalry” and working together for the Frontier students to showcase their talents for family and friends was a refreshing reminder that Hamburg, N.Y. is truly the place friendship built. Thank you, Hamburg Central School District!
