Letter to the Editor: Support the Kathleen Mary House

As we approach another season, the Kathleen Mary House is approaching another season of hope. Hope for safety, hope for understanding, community engagement, prevention and hope for change for the moms and their children that reside at the house.

The KMH is a unique, non-profit transitional home for women and their children that are victims of domestic violence. The house is located in the Southtowns and provides families with a safe, nurturing and nonjudgmental environment.

Each resident receives physical, emotional and spiritual assistance, along with education, training, counseling and child care.

Our fashion show committee feels privileged to be a part of making a difference in the lives of these hurting families.

Chair Nicole Dayka and Co-Chair Lisa Ruszczyk and the rest of the committee will soon be hosting a wonderful, fun-filled event to bring together two things every women loves: fashion and helping others.

The clothes on their backs and a few personal items and a lot of fear is what these families bring with them, when they reach the Kathleen Mary House. Domestic violence has stripped them of their safety, their security and their homes. Together as a community, we can unite and support these women and their children that are in dire need.

Our third annual fashion show, “Steps to New Beginnings,” will be the theme of the afternoon and these steps will be realized, as each local model takes to the runway.

The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 from 12 noon – 3:30 p.m. at the Michael’s Banquet Facility, located at 4885 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg, N.Y.

Lynne Dixon, Erie County legislator, will be joining us as our master of ceremony. Dress Barn, Gap and Gap Baby/Kids will showcase their fashions in the show. Elle Hair Salon will provide the makeup and hairstyling for our women models.

Tickets are available now for $25 per person. Tables of 10 ($250) can be reserved, if purchased before Oct. 5, 2013. Included is a sit-down lunch, coffee and dessert, lucky purse game, basket raffle and wine wagon, as well as browse and buy at the women-friendly vendor displays that are selling items women love to have.

Gather up your families, your friends and co-workers and join us in supporting the Kathleen Mary House, as we celebrate the beauty of women inside and out and stomp out the ugliness of domestic violence.

For tickets or more information, please call Nicole Dayka at 648-3924.
