The Sun letter to the editor: The reality is sinking in

Editor:

Less than two months have gone by since the political power officially shifted from one party to another in the Hamburg, N.Y. Town Board.

As a longtime resident of the town of Hamburg, an active and engaged citizen, a second-year law student and someone who has a passion for politics and the political system, I am sincerely disappointed with the attitude and the reprehensible behavior exhibited by the recently elected new board members.

After promising a fresh start, one which would embrace a positive attitude, be devoid of political vengeance and, most importantly, be geared toward continuing the success which Hamburg has been experiencing over the past eight years, we have seen the exact opposite.

Immediate appointment of political allies, removal of political enemies, dismissal of recommendations by the supervisor and downright lack of respect for some residents who voice their opinion at town board meetings regarding key issues the board is working on – all of this is deplorable.

It was explicitly promised that the town of Hamburg would be taken out of the news for negative press; however, it continues to be a political battleground and a powder keg of hostility.

So, with that, I implore both of the new Democratic board members to change their attitude and stop playing party politics. These individuals must start working with Supervisor Walters for the betterment of our community.

Hopefully they will recognize that they work for all the taxpayers of Hamburg, and not just the ones who voted for them, and especially not for party bosses.

That is how good government works, and that is what I expect out of my elected officials.

Joseph Smith
Hamburg

Cry Me A River, Joe!!!!
Boohoo, Joe, boohoo. Let's have a pity party for the poor old GOP. Please! And if you were paying attention the last time a turnover happened, that time when the GOP ousted the Dems, you saw much worse. The old saying goes, "elections have consequences."
