The Sun letter to the editor: Sherwood Meadow Apartments wrong for neighborhood

Adding another ingress/egress to the proposed Sherwood Meadows Apartment complex will not solve the traffic issue in the Roundtree Village neighborhood. DATO Development LLC is under contract to purchase a small parcel of land from Hopevale, so that a second driveway could be added to the proposed project. However, the addition of this second ingress/egress would still put the same amount of traffic onto our residential streets, only this proposed driveway would be at a dangerous portion of Howard Drive.

Traffic isn’t the only reason we do not want this project in our backyards. Anyone who is familiar with the Roundtree neighborhood knows we have a great quality of life that will be jeopardized, if this project is allowed to happen. On my street, there are several original homeowners who had their homes built for them in the late 1970s. Most of them are retired and have raised their families in the Roundtree development. After speaking with a number of these original homeowners, I have found that the reason they stay in this development is because they love the peaceful neighborhood here. I would hate to see this part of Hamburg permanently ruined, so that DATO Development LLC could profit from a project that doesn’t belong at the proposed location.

DATO Development LLC was already approved to build 56 townhouses on this site and it was met with little to no resistance from the Roundtree Village neighborhood. A change-in-use to build 128 apartment units with accommodations for 256 vehicles does not belong in a residential neighborhood, no matter how many driveways it has.
