The Sun letter to the editor: Thank you to contributors for the festive scarecrows around the village

Editor:
Ever wonder how those scarecrows are placed around the village for all to enjoy?

You can thank the youth groups that make them and businesses that sponsor them. Youth groups under the age of 18 use their imagination and create a fun scarecrow made of recycled items. A business volunteers to pay and sponsor the group.

The scarecrow is placed in front of their business or in the Overlook Park at Main and Buffalo streets. Maps and voting forms were given out to the public at Main Street Ice Cream and Monroe’s Place, throughout the event.

All sponsor money is given back as prize money to the top three groups with the most votes, and there is a judges’ award, which went to Frankenstein, made by Girl Scout Troop No. 30884, in front of Embraceable Ewe Yarn Shop.

The top three winners were: first place, in front of Gear for Adventure, made by 12U New Era Diamond Girls; second place in front of Comfort Zone, made by Lakeshore Cooperative Nursery School; and third place, in front of Mary Claire’s Bistro and Chocolates, made by Girl Scout Troop No. 30267.

All the scarecrows were great and we want to thank the other groups for making them: Girl Scout Troop No. 30508, Saint James Youth Group, Girl Scout Troop No. 141, Junior Troop No. 31212, Hamburg High School Unyts, Willow Bend Club, Hamburg High School Finance Academy, Girl Scout Troop No. 30138, Girls Scout Troop No. 3301, Cub Scout Pack No. 509, Daisy Troop No. 31800, Girls on the Run from Union Pleasant School, Girl Scout Troop No. 398, Cub Scout Pack No. 890, Girl Scout Troop No. 1173, Saints Peter & Paul youth ministry, Girl Scout Troop No. 38004, Saints Peter & Paul Little Flowers Girls Club, Girl Scout Troop No. 31937 and Hamburg Hot Shots 4H group.

Also, thank you to the businesses that sponsor this event and make it possible for all to enjoy: Embraceable Ewe, Lake Shore Bank, Key Bank, Leyonmark Insurance, Buffalo Street Grill, Comfort Zone Cafe, Southtown Audio Video, Tresses Salon, Mammoser’s Tavern, Gear for Adventure, Picture Your Walls, Rick Benz Insurance, Main Street Ice Cream, Tina’s Italian Kitchen, Mary Claire’s, Imagine:Hamburg, Battin Optical, Grass Roots Website, Q-1 of a Kind, Snippets & Gems, Monroe’s Place, Jimmies Pizza, Coyote Cafe, What a Woman Wants, Mason’s Grille 52 and Ten Thousand Vines.
