The Sun letter to the editor: Consider how the circus animals are treated

Editor:

The Shriners’ Circus is coming to town again.

Before you patronize a circus that features animals, please consider the price the animals pay.

A person need not be an expert to realize that being in a circus is no life for a wild animal. Deprived of all that is natural to them, animals are forced to endure extensive travel, chaining, deprivation of sleep, food or water and constant physical punishment.

Any wild animal I have seen forced to perform in a circus is a mere shell of what they should be.

While the Shriners do a fantastic amount of charity, a severe wrong does not justify a right.

There are countless other fundraisers available that do not harm animals. What are we teaching our children, by taking them to a circus which exploits wild animals, other than it is excusable to enslave another being, just for senseless entertainment?
