The Sun letter to the editor: Hamburg School Board taxes are oppressive

Editor:
Having just paid my school taxes, I am reminded of our New York state motto: “Excelsior” (ever upward).

I have reviewed my taxes for the last several years and, much to my chagrin, I discovered that my school tax increases were: year 2013 – plus-9 percent. Year 2012 – plus-5.2 percent. Year 2011 – plus-9.3 percent.

All this talk about 3 percent caps is just that: talk. My overall increase for this three-year period is plus-25.3 percent.

It is dismaying that I must rent my paid-for home from the various taxing entities for $400. Per month. This will soon be approaching $100 per week.

I feel like an indentured person. Please do not tax me out of my home!

Looking forward to some restraint, especially by our school district.
