The Sun letter to the editor: A word from your local alumni association

Once again, this summer, the Frontier Central Alumni Association sponsored a successful scholarship golf outing. All 132 golfers enjoyed an eventful day of golf, a delicious lunch and dinner, great accommodations, prizes and unmatched camaraderie at the scenic and challenging Briarwood Country Club on Aug. 12th.

The factors contributing to the success of a benefit of this magnitude were many, but, in large part, were due to the incredible support of major sponsors: Chiacchia and Fleming, LLP Attorneys at Law; West Herr Automotive Group; Young & Wright Architectural LLC; Matthews Buses Inc. and Jewitt Enterprises Inc. DBA Ronald H. Jewitt Agency, as well as 39 sponsors and 38 gift donors.

The association cannot thank them enough for their interest and collaboration in helping scholarship and grant recipients.

This outing’s success ensures the alumni association another opportunity to award $1,500 scholarships for the 2013 – 2014 school year. Hopefully, this financial assistance will aid the recipients in relieving the prohibitive costs of college expenses.

Scholarship winners for 2012 – 2013 were: Madeline Heavern, Allyson Olday, Andrea Pellicano, Nicole Pietras, Courtney Schmidt and Evan Taylor. These students are children of Frontier Central alumni members or graduating seniors of Frontier.

Also, 10 $500 grants were awarded, last school year, for causes supporting student achievement. Recipients were Laura Glista (art teacher/Pinehurst), Wendy Rayburg (English teacher/high school), Elizabeth Kick (library media specialist/Big Tree), Ann LaTona (fourth grade teacher/Pinehurst), Jennifer Sienkiewicz (special education teacher/Blasdell), Lisa McCarthy (art teacher/Big Tree/Blasdell/Pinehurst), Juliet Szczerbacki (art teacher/Cloverbank), Elaine Turner (art teacher/Pinehurst), Cheryl Check (secretary/Blasdell), Jennifer Krupski (PTA/Cloverbank).

The alumni association invites any Frontier alumni (former student, parent of current/former student or employee) wishing to become involved in achieving its goals to join us at our meetings on the second Monday of September, November, January, March and May. Times, dates and locations of meetings will be published in the Frontier District newsletter and/or on the district website: (check community for alumni information).

The next meeting of the association is Monday, Sept. 9th at J.P.’s Pub on Lake View Road at 7 p.m. For more information concerning the alumni association, call Susan Infante at 648-5743.
