The Sun letter to the editor: The sun is about to shine on Erie County

I am pleased to announce that the Erie County Legislature voted today unanimously, to remove the sales tax on commercial solar equipment.

All that is left is the county executive to add his signature.

By doing so, Erie County becomes one of the few counties in New York state to do this.

This removal of this sale tax was due to legislation largely in part sponsored by legislators Mills and Dixon.

In 2008, Erie County removed a similar sales tax on residential solar equipment and, shortly after, became one of the largest residential solar power-producing counties in the state.

This removal of the commercial sales tax on solar equipment will help companies and farmers invest in clean, renewable solar power and save thousands of dollars in doing so, on their investment.

Companies can save tens of thousands on their electric bills, once these systems are installed, and use these savings for expansion and job creation.

The jobs this removal will produce in this area are hard to imagine.

All I can say is, move over California, Arizona, Silicon Valley.

The sun is about to shine on Erie County.
