The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights is back!

The Fairgrounds in Hamburg will open its gates for the ninth annual Fairgrounds Festival of Lights at 5 p.m. on Nov. 29.

The gates will be open from 5 – 9 p.m. on Nov. 29 – 30 and Dec. 1, 6 - 8, 13 – 15, 20 – 23 and 27 – 29. Buildings will remain open until 10 p.m. on the above days.

Admission is available by the carload or busload. Save 50 percent with presale tickets, available at the Event Center box office from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, or at participating local Tops Friendly Markets locations. Presale tickets are available until Nov. 23.

Admission to The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights includes a drive through all-new LED light displays. Guests may also park the car and walk down the expanded 42nd Street.

An interactive game for kids is available at the Christmas tree forest, and young attendees may be contestants at a kids game show. Nels Ross will present a magic variety show and an all-new animated light show will take place on the woodcarvers building.

Attendees will also meet holiday characters, reindeer and Santa Claus, until Dec. 23.

For an additional cost, take a reindeer carriage ride, decorate a holiday cookie, try concessions, ride the rides on Santa’s Magical Midway or warm up around the fire pit with a hot beverage. Pick up a gift at one of the on-site holiday vendors, including a new candy shop.

Guests may check out the winners of the “drug free new year” artwork and poetry contest and see the 35-foot-tall Christmas tree, provided by Western New York United. The Fairgrounds has asked that guests bring a new, unwrapped toy for The Buffalo News Neediest Fund.

Four holiday contests will include cookie decorating, gingerbread house construction, a wreath-making contest and a new stocking-decorating contest, which will replace ornament decorating. For more information about the contests, visit

Guests who are looking for a new way to see the Festival of Lights may walk through the nearly 2 miles of lights on select Dec. 4, 11 and 18. They may also rent snowshoes on-site with the support of Gear for Adventure. Walk-Around Wednesdays run from 5 – 9 p.m.
