Judge Barbara Howe is running unopposed for reelection as an Erie County surrogate judge.
She received her Juris Doctor degree in faculty of law and jurisprudence from the State University of New York at Buffalo and received her Ph.D. in sociology from Cornell University.
She is currently an adjunct clinical professor for the School of Law at SUNY Buffalo.
She has held positions on the New York State Supreme Court and was an associate judge for the Buffalo City Court. She was a principal law clerk for the New York State Court of Claims in Buffalo.
She is currently a member of the Judicial Advisory Council at the NYS Office of Court Administration, the Surrogate Court’s Advisory Committee and Judges Legislative Advisory Group. She is a life member of the NAACP and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
She won the Lawyer of the Year Award for Women Lawyers of Western New York, Buffalo. She was the chairwoman for the Search Committee for Sociology of Law in the Department of Sociology at SUNY Buffalo in 2001.
Howe was the invited presenter at the NYS Bar Association, Erie Institute of Law (formerly the Bar Association of Erie County), NYS Office of Court Administration’s Statewide Judicial Seminars and other accredited entities, variously, for more than 30 years.
She has been endorsed by the Democratic, Republican, Conservative, Working Families and Independence parties.
