The Clarence Senior Center opened its doors in 1981. The building is owned and maintained by the Town of Clarence and the town provides a senior center bus and a yearly stipend to operate the center.
Activities are funded through dues, fund-raising and donations. Clarence Senior Citizens Inc. is a 501 C3 not-for-profit organization that operates the senior center. The organization is governed by a board of directors and employs eight full or part-time staff members.
It is the mission of the Clarence Senior Center Citizens Inc. to provide social, recreational, education and nutritional programs as well as opportunities for volunteering to persons in the community who are 50 years old and older.
To meet the needs of the growing senior population, programming from soup to nuts is offered at the senior center. Dining programs, exercise classes, art classes, book groups, computer classes, card games, bocce ball, day and extended trips are just a small sampling of what is offered.
Added to all that great activity, the nicest part of the center is that it is a place to gather to share and enjoy the company of others. Walking through the wonderful setting of the center, you feel an atmosphere of togetherness that makes one want to be a part of.
The Clarence Senior Center has gone through many changes and much growth through the years. Director Karla Madrid and her staff have done a great job in providing opportunities for enrichment, purpose, fulfillment and just plain old fun to the seniors of our community.
