Trolley stop to be dedicated

HAMBURG — The village of Hamburg and Imagine:Hamburg will hold a dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 for the replica trolley stop, located in the green space at Legion and Clark streets. Local government officials and guests will be in attendance.

Imagine:Hamburg representatives said that this dedication, which is open to the public, has a goal of recognizing and thanking the individuals, businesses and volunteers who gave their time, money and materials toward completing the project.

The event will also include a presentation by historian Jack Edson about the early trolley line, which linked the village to South Buffalo, from 1901 – 1932.

“We wanted an opportunity to celebrate with the community, and to thank those responsible for their tireless efforts in making this replica trolley stop a reality,” Imagine:Hamburg Chairman Dale Neseman said.

The dedication will also honor the late Donald “Duke” Spittler, whose son Chip spent more than 1,000 hours building the post-and-beam structure by hand, in honor of his father.

A reception with coffee and pastries will take place, immediately after the ceremony.
