ERIE COUNTY — The residents and employees of the McGuire Group’s five local health care and rehabilitation facilities engaged in a competition to see which facility could raise the most money to benefit Meals on Wheels for Western New York.
Each location sold paper angels for various dollar amounts. When a donation was made, an angel with that person’s name was hung on the wall.
Each week, the activity directors shared their earnings and tracked them on a chart, to keep the competitive spirit alive.
McGuire Group facilities include Autumn View Health Care Facility in Hamburg, Garden Gate Health Care Facility in Cheektowaga, Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster, Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda and Seneca Health Care Center in West Seneca.
Together, the staff members and residents of these locations raised $1,637 in donations, which provided more than 400 meals for those in the local community.
“The best thing about the competition was the residents’ and employees’ helping others,” said Rhonda Gorman, activity director at Garden Gate Health Care Facility and coordinator of the event.
The McGuire Group facilities provide 24-hour nursing care, subacute and outpatient rehabilitation, palliative care, hospice care, memory care and respite/short-term care. They have received “outstanding star rankings” from the federal and state governments, for their quality of care. For more information, visit www.mcguiregroup.com
