Boston Fire Co., resident reach accord on easement, bringing new fire hall closer

A major hurdle was cleared by the Boston Fire Co., as it moves one step closer in its attempts to build a new fire hall.
Mike Perley, the attorney representing resident Marilyn Will, whose property is adjacent to the Boston Fire Co., said the two sides have settled a dispute over an issue regarding an easement on a portion of her property.
“I am pleased to report we have reached an agreement with the Boston Fire Co.,” Perley said.
He said a notification is being sent to the Town of Boston to let them know she is relinquishing her claim to the easement.
The Boston Fire Co., is located at 6746 Mill St., near Boston State Road.Perley said the Boston Fire Co. would like to build a brand new facility.
Brian Attea, the attorney representing the fire company, said the reason an entire new facility is being sought by the department is because the current location does not have the capabilities of being able to handle much of the modern equipment the department uses.
Perley added that the current facility is also too small.
Although Perley said he did not want to go into many specifics of the pact, he said “we’re satisfied we reached a good accommodation.”
“It ran right where the building is,” Perley said of the easement, adding it had access from Boston State Road.
The dispute began several months ago after the fire department submitted plans to the Boston Town Planning Board to review.
Perley added he is glad the two sides were able to work cooperatively to reach an agreement and possibly pave the way for a new fire hall to be constructed.
According to Attea, the next step will be to get the plans before the planning board to start the review process over, with the ultimate goal of “construction of a new building.”
“The architectural renderings and drawings had already been submitted to the town prior to the issue with the easement,” Attea said.
Under the agreement, Attea noted there is nothing in it that will impact the size of the plans submitted to the town. “It should have no impact on the fire company’s original plan for construction,” Attea said.
He said it will be up to the planning board now to review the plan, and either make recommendations to make changes to the plan or recommend that the Boston Town Board approve it.
While Attea said he did not want to comment on a specific time frame, he said the Boston Fire Co. would like to see the new facility in operation by the end of the year.
“They’re very anxious to move forward with construction,” Attea said.
