New York State Police makes several recent arrests

MACHIAS — New York State Police from the Machias barracks were informed of a running vehicle that was parked outside Country Fair, located at the corner of South Cascade Drive and Route 39 in Springville. The operator was reported to be asleep.

Investigation revealed that the driver, Shawn Markiewicz, 39, of Cheektowaga, was intoxicated. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and processed at the state police barracks in Machias, where he was determined to have a blood alcohol content of .24 percent. A blood alcohol content of .18 percent or higher increases DWI charges to aggravated DWI. Markiewicz is to answer the charges in the village of Springville Court in January.

On Dec. 23 at 6 a.m., state police from the Machias barracks arrested Matthew Parrent, 29, of Rochester for criminal trespass second, after the subject entered a West Yorkshire residence, without permission.

Following his arrest, Parrent was arraigned in the town of Machias Court and committed to the Cattaraugus County Jail.

On Jan. 1, at 9:30 a.m., Trooper Eric Sauers observed a vehicle strike a guard rail on the west side of Route 219 in the town of Ashford. Sauers investigated the accident and, following field sobriety tests, found the operator to be intoxicated.

Mitchell Gefaller, 18, of Orchard Park was arrested for DWI. He was processed at state police barracks in Boston, where he consented to a blood alcohol content test, with the result’s being .09 percent. He will appear in the town of Ashford Court on Feb. 14 to answer the charge.
