The Town of Pendleton rolls out an innovative recycling program to increase the amount of materials that can be recycled, reducing the amount of refuse. Single stream recycling is the latest in the state-of-the-art technology that sorts recyclables at Modern’s faculty.
Residents received an informational flyer from Modern Recycling and a 64-gallon recycling cart during the week of Jan. 14.
The carts will hold more recyclables, are high quality, easy to store, and easy to handle. They come with a strong cover that should keep recyclable items contained during windy days.
Recycling pick-up will change from every week to an every other week schedule and alternate between two routes.
The Recycling Collection begins with the A or Red week on Jan. 29 for residents who normally have refuse/recycling pick-up Tuesdays; and Jan. 30 for residents who normally have refuse/recycling pick-up on Wednesdays.
The next week Recycling Collection reverts to the B or Blue week beginning on Feb. 5 for resident who normally have refuse/recycling on Tuesdays; and Feb. 6 for resident who normally have refuse/recycling on Wednesdays.
Recycled materials include paper, paperboard, newspaper, phonebooks, magazines, catalogs, cardboard, pizza boxes, paper bags, plastic jugs/bottles, household plastics, rigid plastic, aluminum-steel-tin cans, kitchen cookware and glass.
The container comes with a handy reference chart on the cover. Putting everything into one cart increases the ease and convenience of recycling encouraging more people to participate. Increasing the amount of recycled materials will reduce the amount of refuse. The Town of Pendleton saves; the residents save.
As the town transitions to the newer system, it can present challenges along with opportunities that will greatly benefit the Town of Pendleton long term. The newer system allows for more materials to be recycled which is better for the environment.
Any residents having questions or concerns should contact the Town of Pendleton at 625-8833 or Modern Recycling at 800-330-7107.
