Dave Adrian, president of the A Better Blasdell, said that the third annual fundraiser barbecue is being held on Saturday, June 8 at Fireman’s Field on Lake Avenue. The organization is a non-profit, community based, volunteer organization that has about 35 active members.
Their goal is to identify and address the needs of the community to facilitate positive improvements through fundraising activities, while assisting logistically and financially with individuals and groups who need their help.
The barbecue features BW’s Barbecue, which will be served from 4-7 p.m. The event will feature live music from the Ozone Rangers until the festival ends at 11 p.m. It will also feature a raffle, games and races.
The money raised will be used to support community improvements across Blasdell.
“We have helped supply labor and materials to the ice rink, we raised money for Blasdell Elementary to buy books for the literacy program, and we’re working to raise money for a kiln at the elementary school as well,” Adrian said.
The organization hopes to continue supporting the community through advertising, supporting the farmer’s market, and work with the Blasdell Business Association. Adrian, who has largely spent his life in Blasdell, believes firmly in his organization’s slogan, that Blasdell is “one square mile of heaven.”
