LANCASTER- Complete with the red carpet, paparazzi’s, individual’s dressed to the nine’s and shiny hardware, Lancaster Central High School honored students and mentors of the academy’s widely successful internship program Oct. 18, at the Lancaster Opera House.
Lancaster students apply for inclusion in the Academy of Finance during their freshmen year of high school. If selected, they participate in a very specialized curriculum for the remaining three years of high school. Coursework includes introductory courses to financial services, accounting, banking and credit, financial planning, and international finance to name a few. Additionally several of these classes offer college credit as well.
At the end of a student’s junior year, they participate in a paid internship which lasts throughout the summer months. The students work at local banks, insurance agencies, non-for-profit agencies, as well as the finance departments in a variety of corporations and industries.
These internships connect students to the real world of work, and establish important relationships between students and adult professionals in financial services. This was a very special evening is to say thank you, award scholarships and recognize those community and business leaders who have given so much to help groom the next generation financial professionals.
Lancaster’s Academy of Finance was recognized in 2011 and 2012 by the National Academy Foundation.
